And now, another word from your sponsor

I cannot begin to tell you all how much the tidal wave of well wishes I’ve received over the past week plus have meant.  It’s been inspiring.

But I probably need to make clear that the last few days have been more of a respite than a resolution to my health situation.  In fact, as you read this, I will be undergoing what I hope is a final resolution of that.  It’s pretty substantial and I expect I’ll be out of commission for at least a week afterwards.

I promise I’ll return to blogging as soon as it’s feasible, so bear with me.  And, thanks again.

Dolphins ruined my last two Gulf fishing trips. Ripping grouper right off the hook. They’re worse than sharks as they’ll follow you everywhere. When you’re fifty miles out there are few other boats to pawn them off to.
Someone needs to teach them a hard lesson about stealing. Greedy bastards.

I’ve had fishing trips totally ruined by dolphin in the Panama City Beach area too many times.

Where I’m at now fishing out of Palm Beach inlet it’s shark central no matter if you’re bottom fishing or as is the season now chasing sailfish. The bull sharks know boat=free food. If Flipper and his buddies show up here the sharks run away. They seem to enjoy harassing the sharks with a lower fee from the fisherman for their services.

Yeeeeah, that’s why I hesitated to totally go off on dolphins. Down south Florida dolphins hate the Taxman as much as I. Plus, you can always find another boat to cruise by and the dolphins will drop off and snack there.

I keep an AK with a 27 rd mag close by for wandering mom and her cubs while working outside. Got a .22lr pistol for walking in the woods. That ain’t for the bears. It’s for shooting Uncle Got in the knee. Ain’t got to outrun the bear. Just got to outrun Got Cowdog.

    Anyone else see this crap?:

    https://www.espn.com/college-football/insider/story/_/id/35828747/college-football-playoff-candidates-reach-first-cfp

    The intro is classic:

« Last fall, Tennessee beat No. 3 Alabama, earned the No. 1 ranking for a fleeting moment, lost a close game to eventual national champion Georgia and came within a whisper of making the College Football Playoff for the first time.

Had it not been for the Nov. 19 loss at unranked South Carolina — an ugly 63-38 drubbing while playing without SEC Offensive Player of the Year Hendon Hooker — the Vols would have had a chance to make some history.«

That’s some powerful revisionist history, there. Everyone should fine themselves someone who loves them like Heather loves the hillbillies.

Glad to see the over-inflating of hillbilly hopes will continue…

Just to add to all the other comments, you might recall that the Vol fans were of the opinion that we won because of the rain which held their score down. Just for the record I re-watched that game this week and the rain did not even begin until about 5 minutes into the third quarter when we already had a sizable lead. In other words they weren’t scoring when it wasn’t raining. I think the rain had an impact – it kept us from scoring more and making the beat down even worse.

Anyone else watch WrestleMania Saturday last night?

Charlotte Flair and Rita Ripley gave us a match for the ages. For real. The women’s division has gone from T&A to actual athletes who have entertaining and high-flying matches that can match the brutality of the men’s division.

It was so good, that the Main Event of Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens vs. The Usos felt anticlimactic even though it was the culmination of the biggest WWE storyline in years.

Rey Mysterio vs. Dominick Mysterio was also masterfully performed. As was Seth Freakin Rollins vs. Logan Paul.

A good first night. Can’t wait to see tonight!

Women’s Final Four? Who cares about below the rim basketball? No one, says WBNA ratings and attendance figures. However, the women’s division at WWE has actually become fantastic.

The best thing about the Women’s Final Four is Dawn Staley lost. BYU says, “Hello,” Coach Staley.

after April Reese’s little schoolyard display of bad sportsmanship at the end, I found myself missing the relatively calm behavior of Dawn Staley. And the people lined up around the block to defend it are all idiots. Bird, Magic, Jordan all talked a ton of trash, but you never saw them spending the last 5 minutes of a blowout (or any other game) trying to get up in the face of someone who’s a better player that annoyed them. Flip the script and imagine Caitlin Clark was winning and chasing April Reese all around like that. I’m sure all the same people would be defending her. “That’s our culture’ just is a code for what they realllllllllllllllllly want to say.

It wasnt at all the same. She did it at her own bench. She didnt get up in anyones face, and she certainly didnt chase anyone around after the game was over. Its a step beyond. I dont care for all the hot dogging, but the outright taunting? They dont do it like that in the mens game that ive seen. Bird, Magic, jordan all talked trash, never saw them do that. I dont approve of it whoever does it. I think a lot of people tuned in to the final who hadnt watched womens bball out of curiousity. A lot of those people thought Reese was a jerk. And the reflexive YOU CANT CRITICIZE HER some of her defenders jumped to dont change that for me. If thats what the women’s game is , i have no interest in watching it or supporting it. I saw the tail end of the UGA-Iowa game, thought the UGA girls took a couple of cheap shots in the last minute of a game they were losing and knew they couldnt catch up in. I didnt think much of that, either. Dont like cheap shots in the mens game, either. Its a weird foex to me to say “hey, theyre taunting jerks in mens bball, WOMEN CAN BE JERKS, TOO.” And, miss me with ” thats our culture” , too. Play hard? Great. Be fiery/competitive? Fine. No problem. Learn not to be an asshole. Dont excuse that, dont promote that. And dont expect people not to call you out on it.

All that needs to be said.

debby, this isnt a shot at you. I just didnt care for Reese’s actions, and to me, the justification offered by several people (not named you) that “CC did the same thing” doesnt bear close scrutiny. I’m actually kind of tired of hearing about it all, tbh. CC says no problem, so I’m not defending her. I just object to the behavior, and also to the people who take glee in it (probably not you, I imagine). That happens in a mens game, punches are getting thrown.

ah, the predictable white knighting. If you want to make it racial, I got nothing for you. I dont like people who are taunting assholes. Reese carried it way past hotdogging. I am not a big fan of hotdogging, either. I didnt watch 10 minutes of womens hoops before the final. If that’s where they all want to take the game, I doubt I will waste 10 mintues on it the rest of my life. If you think all that jackassery is great for women, god bless you

I had the opportunity to fish at The Fabulous Moolah’s training compound in the mid 80’s. An acquaintance’s sister trained there and lived in one of Moolah’s single wides. Ms Moolah came out visited with me awhile. She dropped all pretense and sounded as Southern as my grandmother. I enjoyed talking to her.
      I’d almost forgot about that.

  124. Jenny Bae played a great round on Sunday at the National and took the anointed #1 amateur in the world to a playoff from 6 back. I didn’t see the double bogey she made on 3, but from that point to the clubhouse, she was the best player on the course … and to the chagrin of Golf Channel and NBC was the fly in the ointment of the crowning of Rose Zhang. I’m sure the Handbag Fred Ridley was dreading the potential of handing the trophy to a current Bulldog and listening to the patrons yell “Go Dawgs!” and bark and breathed a sigh of relief when Jenny’s 2nd shot went left at 10.

In baseball, the Diamond Dawgs get swept by Vandy in Nashville in embarrassing fashion. Is this truly the beginning of the end for Stricklin? If the Dawgs find a way to salvage a berth in the NCAA tournament and get bounced, does it save him?

I don’t know whether or not it is the beginning of the end for Strick or not, but the SEC is truly an embarrassment of riches in baseball. Seven teams ranked in the updated top 11 (LSU [1], UF [3], Vandy [4], Arkansas [5], USC [6], UK [10], and UT [11]). But no other team from the SEC ranked 12 -25. I don’t know if the problem is recruiting and/or lack of development or if he can’t manage or what the issue is. The Dawgs’ remaining SEC slate includes Kentucky, at UF, Arkansas, at Ole Miss, UT, at Missouri, and LSU to finish out the season. So 15 games against teams currently ranked in the top 11. Good luck with that.

Diamond Dawgs are already cooked unfortunately – because of the remaining schedule it will be nearly impossible to get back in CWS contention. Saw a bunch of power rankings on twitter that listed us last in the SEC. Not great, obviously.

It’s been a hot minute since I visited Foley. I know some schools like Miss St. and Vandy have built baseball temples that are out of this world. How far behind are we across the SEC in general?

        • Do people actually go to Vandy baseball games or is their facility just for recruiting?

Everyone around us has invested in their baseball programs, but we sit on a ballpark that’s quaint and quirky. When the team is good, the place is packed. I don’t know what is the best thing to do. I like Foley as a spot to play baseball. As a spot to watch, it seems dated (but I haven’t been to a game in a long time). I have no idea if the player facilities are competitive with the rest of the league.

It just seems Stricklin has peaked.

      • Some years we have had great pitching with no hitting. This year we can’t get people out. I’m not close enough to know whether it’s recruiting, development or in-game management, but there’s too much talent in the state to have a team in this much disarray (and with Stricklin at UGA for as long a time as he has been).

ESPN announced on Monday that the title showdown between the two powerhouses drew in 9.9 million viewers, record for a women’s game. Viewership peaked at 12.6 million at one point during the contest and according to the network, it was also the most watched college event ever for ESPN+.

This was the first year the title game was broadcasted on ABC and it paid dividends with the tip scheduled for mid-afternoon. ESPN was the exclusive broadcaster of the women’s tournament once again and this year’s tourney overall was the most watched in history.

I have done much worst. But it did not cost me a couple of million dollars. I hope those owners and coaches have the ability to watch film. The main problem is a fifth round QB gets MAYBE 2 chances and if he does not shine, he is gone. A first or second or third round QB gets chances all day long. Stet can win for a team if they give him a chance. As could have Murry, Zier, Fromm and several more, if they just give him a chance. Stet did not help himself in TX.

Just watched the Stetson police video. There are happy drunks and there are mean/asshole drunks. Stetson appears to one of the later. A friend of mine growing up was a great guy if he was drinking beer. When he drank liquor he became the biggest asshole in the world, always starting fights. He finally figured things out and hasn’t had a drop of liquor in 30 years. Still drinks beer with no problem.

I’ve learned not to swallow too much of the spring Kool Aid. But, what else have we got to do in the offseason but obsess over that kind of stuff? I expect no real clues from Kirby; nothing for him to gain by giving people outside the building insight into who is ahead, or behind, or whatever.

I admit I have no clue. Beck seems to have the best accuracy, and the most experience. BVG is the biggest, strongest and most athletic, it seems. And Stockton may be a good combo of accuracy and athletic. I havent got a clue.

The TE room sounds like it’s in great shape. Ditto the WR room, and the RB room. Looks like we have plenty of experience, talent, and depth at OL; SVP coming back really solifidifed that unit.

The young defense that crushed almost everyone has almost everyone coming back, and while Ringo and C Smith were great, there is a load of talent coming in behind them.

What a time to be a Bulldog, huh? Some things cant be prepared for or predicted (injuries, bad calls, etc), but if we can avoid self inflicted wounds, we might be pretty good. Again.

After the NC in ‘80 I had hope for another NC just to be disappointed. Had hope ebb and flow through the late ‘80’s and 90’s. Real expectations were shattered under Richt. Renewed hope when Kirby was hired only to watch an almost disastrous 8-5 first season. ‘17 in the playoffs. Finally. That gave way to “just glad to be here” at the half against what turned out to be Choklahoma and first real chance at a NC since ‘83. Refs fucked us. I reckon that’s better than fucking ourselves. Excitement from that bitch Hope only to be met with disappointment until the Dawgs spanked that Gump ass. It all culminated with the biggest ass whipping ever in a NC or any bowl game. This is what I’ve always wanted. Georgia is the most dominant program in college football and runs the score up on second tier programs as a matter of course with the second string. Throughout it all I’ve been a Dawg. Never wavered. But never forget…

    Saturday down South, Drew Peterson,

Kirby Smart’s most recent group of Georgia seniors went out with a bang.
Two national championships. A school record-tying 17 consecutive wins. A school record 49-5 mark. Talent alone doesn’t get a team to those kinds of heights. The culture has to be right. The mentality has to be right.
    And it certainly was.
Smart praised the Bulldogs’ latest senior class during a recent appearance on the ‘Basketball and Beyond with Coach K’ radio show on SiriusXM, saying they didn’t step onto the field on Saturdays worried about the score. Their intent was nastier.
“That senior group, they wouldn’t sacrifice what they believed in, how they’d practice, the work ethic in the offseason. It was a special group of leaders,” Smart told Krzyzewski. “They went into every game not thinking about the score, not thinking about wing, they wanted to make the other team quit.

Damn just damn. Love my Dawgs.
