Adventures in chutzpah

Believe it or not,

With the job listing still fresh on the market, UNLV interim Athletic Director Jerry Koloskie has been inundated with calls and e-mails from those interested in his football coaching vacancy.

While more names will surface later, as several prospective candidates are still in season, a source close to the situation confirmed to The Sun on Thursday that one prominent figure to throw his hat into the ring is Dennis Franchione, who most recently held the post at Texas A&M…

That’s right – Dennis “VIP Connection” Franchione in Las Vegas.  Talk about your match made in heaven.  Can you imagine what the NCAA must think of the possibilities here?

On the other hand, I’ve got to admit Coach Franchione in the land of the sports book rates about an 8.5 on a scale of 10 on the is-it-good-for-the-bloggers meter.

Ah, Coach Fran. I wish he had had just enough success to still be hanging around in Alabama. The folks seem to have taken on a whole unbelievable personality since they are part of the Saban Nation now.

Ah Ben, you must not be olde enought to remember what the Bama fans were like in the sixties and seventies.

It is not, I fear, that they have taken on a new personality, its that the old one has re- surfaced.

And if Naughty Nick does not understand this, he best beat Florida, or he will find out.

Among the true believers, finishing second in the SEC is like beating Vandy…meaningless.

I wouldn’t bet that UNLV would take a spin of the wheel on Fran, just to try to hit the big jackpot of respectable college football. It’s just not in the cards.

As I was reading that I was hoping the name of one of the interested parties was Slick Willie M.

The Franchione stuff is great, but taunting us like that is just cruel of the UNLV AD.

From now on, all press releases of this nature should be prefaced with “This school is not interested in Willie Martinez” just so we don’t get our hopes up.
