Idle gossip and random chatter can be fun.

Jimmy Hyams does a round up of what anonymous SEC coaches say about other SEC programs… anonymously.

As I’ve said about Athlon’s similar take, the snark level has gone down noticeably with Tuberville’s departure.  There are only a couple of negative shots at coaches — “Kirby Smart is a very good football coach, but he needs to mature. He loses his cool when things don’t go his way.” and “Arkansas is getting tired of Bielema’s bullshit. He hasn’t won over nine games. Houston (Nutt) won 10 and was a hell of a lot better person.” — but there is another quote that wins:

“A lot of smoke around Ole Miss because of the behavior of some players,” a coach said.

I want to believe that’s a deliberate pun, so whoever you are, coach, well played.

Do you think Hugh Freeze made the anonymous Ole Miss quote? Sounds like it to me.

I’ll go out on a limb and guess that quote didn’t come from Boom or Bootch. And we all know most coaches are cool, calm & collected when things don’t go their way…

“But he needs to be mature”?

I rolled my eyes at this. Not everyone can be Roy Williams or Phil Jackson or ….. Mark Richt. Nor should they be. Every coach has his own style. Obviously I don’t think coaches should be petty and take things out on other coaches or on their players publicly to humiliate them, but there’s nothing wrong with a coach chewing some ass when people aren’t performing or following through like they should.

That comment really made me think about how different game 1 is going to be for us as fans. You think about it and we’ve had such a stable, consistent “known” basis of what to generally expect when the red & black take the field for so many years, and literally every aspect of that (save ~80% of the guys in uniform) will be different. It’s exciting and a bit nerve-wracking at the same time. I’m very curious to see what this iteration of the Dawgs looks like. Kirby’s obviously been a very excitable dude on the sidelines with Bama as DC…will be interesting to see how he transitions to the HC role. Will definitely be a departure from Richt. As long as the first offensive play doesn’t result in a false start penalty.

Good post, Starbreaker…we really can only imagine how it’s all going to play out…everything new and different. I’m optimistic…but then I’ve always been a heavy (cool aid) drinker.

Richt is basically all I’ve known as a UGA fan since I started school there in 2000 (Donnan’s last season – which I barely remember). Love him or hate him, it’s weird to think about Richt not being on the sideline.

“Kirby Smart is a very good football coach, but he needs to mature. He loses his cool when things don’t go his way”……..I guess Saban has not matured just yet either. Hell, I love the passion….show your love, show your displeasure. “The squeeky wheel gets greased”.

10/10 that “Arkansas is tired of Bert’s BS” came from Saban. Saban recommended Nutt for the LSU job when he left n

  7. The Kirby comment has got to be from Boom. I’d bet money on it.

  9. Some “anonymous” SEC coach said Kirby loses his temper too easily? Are y’all sure he wasn’t talking about Boom Muschamp? And are you sure there wasn’t drinking involved during these interviews? I’ve seen passion and ass-chewing on the sideline during some of ‘bama’s games, but never saw him lose it. Never heard that from any of my friends that are, unfortunately, Tide fans.
    Interesting.
