Herbie mails in his Georgia-South Carolina preview.
Honestly, I can get better insight from a GTP comment thread on an average day. You guys work a lot cheaper, too.

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23

+1. You’d think they would at least do a retake when a guy makes that bad a misstatement.

Why bother? People that depend on these ESPN talking heads for their inside info probably think the “G” on the helmet is for “Gators.”

Gastri I wish that was completely true…the bullshit that dribbles out of the mouths of these people has an impact on the great unwashed tailgate alumni who populate the radio call in shows and so forth.
I am convinced that much of the ammunition for criticism of coaches comes from the TV Weasels who have now begun to point out the mistakes of coaches, both offense and defense, who don’t call the play the “analyst” thinks they should. Herbstreit is really just the tip of the Bullshit Berg.

It’s going to be about which team executes their gameplan the best. If Georgia can hold South Carolina and Georgia can score more points then I like the Dawg’s chances in this one.

I like anyone’s chances that can hold the other team, and score points. 99% of games are won that way.

Herbie may be bucking to replace Bill King. I am disappointed as Hell that he and mustardburger are calling our game. Herbie screaming and Musberger constantly referring to spurrier as the ole ball coach will be nauseating. I am fearful musburger may ruin the gurshall thing as well, we need to write him an open letter as GA fans asking him not to profane the nickname with his hyperbole and faux dramatic theatrics.

This game is going to be won in the trenches – mano y mano. Will Georgia be able to take the crown out of the game? Mark Richt is off to a fast start, but a setback in Columbia could land him back on the hot seat. Steve Spurrier has had Georgia’s number throughout the years. As we all know, he is a crafty play caller who will draw up some trick plays in the dirt for Todd Grantham’s defense, which is off to a rocky beginning after dealing with Georgia’s on-going discipline problems and suspensions. This game will establish supremacy in the East and decide who will face a dominant Nick Saban led Alabama squad in Atlanta. It will come down to which team maintains their poise and is able to execute. They will need to take it one play at a time. All in all, it will be about who wins the turnover battle.

Spurrier’s record against Georgia since he’s been in Columbia: 3-4.

I mock ‘Cock fans for living vicariously through Spurrier’s Florida career. I’m supposed to take it more seriously when it comes from a Georgia fan?
If we’re supposed to go that way, shouldn’t we also consider Mark Richt’s track record in Columbia?

I do think he’s right the Georgia OLine/South Carolina DLine is the key matchup in the game. If Georgia’s relatively inexperienced line holds their own I don’t really think South Carolina can win, turnovers being equal.
LikeLike
How about USCe’s O-Line vs. our D front? I think that one may be just as critical if the Cocks want to win.
LikeLike
It’s important, but I think the Georgia defense will get enough stops. If their DLine doesn’t dominate I don’t think they have much chance to stop the Georgia offense at all.
LikeLike
Yes, UGA O-line vs SC D-line. keeping Murray upright is the key.
Bobo, please turn him loose to run if the ends crash down outside.

Yessir, that Herbie is a true football swami….like 99 games out of 100 the game boils down to the trenches….what an astute observer of the obvious.

Herby is pretty good at saying nothing of substance. Good defense versus good offense. Gee, thanks.
I’d like to know where USC’s offensive line stacks up against Georgia’s other opponents. I watched their home opener against Vandy, and Shaw tends to run as soon as he hears a little bit of noise. If he takes a few good shots, it might screw his head up enough to make them very one dimensional. And our defensive back field won’t have as much ground to cover.
LikeLike
Shaw is a tough cookie and it’s not easy to get a good shot on him…although Vandy nailed him a couple of times.

There’s a fine line between being tough and being reckless.

In Herbie’s defense, since he is broadcasting the game he still has to take an objective stance as much as possible.
He still didn’t say anything that approached critical analysis in the video though

I think it comes down to 3 minor details. Offense. Defense. Special Teams. Those 3 are key for each team in this game.
LikeLike
If we limit SC’s running game (I didn’t say stop), especially 3rd down situations, we win. That’s the story line here folks.
LikeLike
Make Shaw beat us with his arm and we win. That simple.

I say stifle Shaw. Take away the dinks and dunks and make SOS run Lattimore early. The earlier the better. We have plenty of depth at LB rotate them and beat on Lattimore. I don’t care how many posts are out there testifying that Lattimore is a 100% cause he ain’t. He has just so many miles on that knee this season and if SOS wants to burn through them all this game then make him. He is not winning more than one of the big three games riding his stud back the whole game. His qb got beat up winning the Vandy game for him. SOS was perfectly willing to throw his qb back into the grinder when it was obvious he was hurt and hurting. Shaw only gets so many trips to the locker room for an “adjustment” after getting his shoulder jarred. Adjustments tend to not be as effective the more they are used. Bobo could try running Boo and DickSamIV if he is prone to running into the teeth of uSC D three times in a row. Put some points on the board and use that RB depth.
Special teams……. I got nothing here. We either get it done or we
don’t. It’s a crazy thing when I worry more about our special team play than I do uSC D line and Lattimore.

Lattimore looks like his old self to me. Once he gets through the line, he picks a compass heading and accelerates like a cannon ball. I suspect he’s hitting his stride to be better than he’s ever been…Don’t get me wrong, I wish he would finish with negative yards.
If I were a defensive coordinator, I’d rather deal with SC and Lattimore than UGA and Gurley, Murray, etc. I like Georgia’s chances if they don’t let the crown cause them to make a lot of mistakes.
LikeLike
He hasn’t carried the ball more than 23 times in a game this year. Against Zou he had more receiving yards than he did running the rock. Against the barners (2011 the fifth game) he had 17 carries and 66 yards. Against Navy he ran it 37 times and SOS escaped the midshipmen by 3 points. Against the pretend dogs he ran it for 39 yards on 17 carries. That was a 2 point win for the OBC.
Just sayin’ Lattimore ain’t Mr. Walker. uSC is beatable. And the Dawgs can get it done.

Folks I have seen some pretty good football defenses try to stop the dink and dunk offense….aint easy to do. Slow it down, disrupt it, maybe, but stop it, ain’t likely.

I’ll see your dink and match your dunk. Yeah Boise got in our face with that. That was some serious dinking and dunking. But can uSC get over 9 yards per completion. Unless they do… they are not Boise. It will make your qb look all world per the completion percentage but unless you get that in the 12-15 yard range it does not translate into points. Yeah Shaw can win this way but his D must be stellar and his special team play need to out perform ours. Lattimore is in recovery and Shaw is too. Pound those two early and often. Make SOS run Lat early and make Shaw run too. Beat they azz with our linebacker depth, early…….. early….. let them moan at the half. Okay… my work here is done. Dawgs by ten.

Look guys, we are going to use a cover 3 scheme, mostly zone. No need to play much man against them. Everyone aside from Rambo, and the 2 corners is going to be watching Shaw and Lattimore in the backfield. As the Ghost of Dawgs Pasts says, make him beat us with his arm.
