It’s good to be the king.

How ’bout this fun fact?

Saban leads all coaches in almost every measure of power. He has college football’s biggest salary, buyout, football budget and portion of his school’s athletic expenses. He is only surpassed in the category of his school’s coaching budget, of which he commands a roughly 30% share. That category is instead led by South Carolina’s Steve Spurrier (No. 8 overall), who collects nearly half of the money South Carolina pays its athletics coaches[Emphasis added.]

I’d have to say that Spurrier earns that proportion. South Carolina has traditionally been chicken shit and he’s made chicken salad.

Yes, and my whole life I’ve been told that is an impossible feat.
Still, though…don’t think I’ll be eating any.

There is an intermediate step whereby the manure is used to grow plants that grow chickens. So, yes, you can make chicken salad out of chickenshit, but it takes a little longer. Steve has taken a little longer.

I think I remember SOS taking a, relatively, small initial salary when he went to Columbia. They couldn’t afford a big time salary at that time so I look at it that he helped the AD out and “invested” in SC. Since he made the “product” more valuable he deserves to benefit from it. I have no issue with Steve salary, and know that he is a better person than that jerk Holtz was at SC, especially in treatment of subordinates. That doesn’t change my mind about how badly he has slipped over the past 4 years and sold his soul to keep players eligible, plus he has embarrassed himself with comments regarding scheduling and Bama’s football prowess. Time for him to go to pasture before he ends up like Pterno and ruins what he worked all his life for.

I’d say that Coach Spurrier’s worth every penny. I’ve always scoffed at the “rivalry” that Gamecock fans have claimed existed between Georgia and South Carolina. Well, I still don’t really consider them a hated rival, but I’ll say that I certainly respect the program now and they’re climbing up the list of teams I want to be sure to beat. So, maybe that’s the beginning of a rivalry. And to look at South Carolina football and realize that they’re a respectable force and to realize that people across the country not only know about them but also respect them… well, I don’t think they’re paying Spurrier enough, really.
