Garner’s return to the Plains seems to have been met with much rejoicing. Which makes me wonder about a couple of things.
- How do you think VanGorder feels about having coached at a second institution where Garner more popular than he was?
- You think Auburn’s on a run where it’s decided to recycle Richt’s old staff to see if it can recapture the magic?

When your program is in a ditch what do you do? Fire coaches. HIre good coaches. Craft good contracts. HIre icon players to assistant positions. AND BUILD ON THE POSITIVES. I guess Pornstache is gone for now but Wee Willie landed on his feet is in Knoxvegas. Knoxvegas is where SOD hired Chuck Smith (Icon Player/Vol Hero and pro baller) to the staff with about the same fanfare and hope (ht/Prez) as the Banners have now. Back in the day CRG (the R is for Rodney not Ronald) cast a big shadow in Atlanta. I’m sure a lot of Mommas in those single parent homes welcomed the opportunity to embrace a family minded and well thought of coach such as CRG into their homes. But lately, the annual plane trips to Knoxvegas and other parts became tedious. Despite much wailing and gnashing of the teeth by the hijo elite….his time was coming full circle. There were concerns about his DL coaching, recruits felt ignored and we were often late to pull the trigger on them. Rumors of head butting with CTG circulated. So here we are…. yards away from a chance to play in the big game, on the threshold of a number one recruiting class and Momma calls him home after 20 some odd years to pull the program out of the ditch. Well alrighty then. At the same time a coach in decline can make bank on his rep and not get soiled by the conflagration of ineptitude on the Plains. Win/win. BMac will pick up where he left off. There will be no void. I am grateful for the work and progress from CRG. Good luck. It was great ride….. thanks. You are a Barner now…….. and that is not a good thing.

Garner did some good work for UGA but no doubt a move is in his and UGA’s best interest. UGA won’t get much better, or worse, without him and neither will Auburn with him. In other words, he is one man.

CRG had 15 years of doing the same job at the same school, with pretty much the same results every year. One would think replacing such a person would be huge. But it seems everyone is just shrugging their shoulders and moving on – which tells us all we really need to know about the situation.
Since CTG is being held responsible for our defensive results, I think its right that he pick his own DL coach. The change doesn’t appear to have any instant effect on recruiting. The silence from recruits is deafening.

I said before that CRG played a very necessary role at UGA in the early years, and I thank him for that. He played the role of intermediary/counselor for many players over the years, and I thank him for that. I completely understand his feelings about returning to Auburn, and after 15 years of service, I feel no malice and wish him well, except for one week a year. All that said, I see no positive purpose to any one bashing him for his decision, or his service, we should be fine with his replacement, but during the recruiting season those who feel otherwise should stifle any bad feelings. He was popular with many HS coaches, and with several of our recruits. Tis the season folks.

Sometimes it’s just time to move on. Coaches come and go for more reasons I want or can come up with on this post. RG was not a 3-4 guy and it showed against Bama. Let CMG get his D Line coach, build some depth and substitute. You know exactly where I am coming from when you play BOTH nose tackles with very little help and give up over 300 yards rushing. Every one knows our d was some what of a mystery.

It still is in my mind. Until proven otherwise, the “tired” theory has been mostly debunked Be my guest. Go to every game stat this year and back into last year. I’d love to see the stats on running yards ,qtr by qtr.. Not only mysterious, but something continues uncorrected throughout the game.. You had better bet that Dawgs’s eyes will be sharpened for the D in the bowl play. Some happenstance can be written off as due to players playing hurt ,but that doesn’t account for enough reason for a systemic “clunk” that happens at least once per game.
