Just a reminder, as we learn today of Tim Kimbrough’s departure from the program because, according to him, “Smart said ‘he was going to kick me off the team or I had to transfer.'”, that Kimbrough was another member of the distinguished recruiting class of 2013.
Maybe Nick would like a return for Smith

Lest we forget Kimbrough lost the starting job in favor of Patrick late last season under Pruitt and Ekeler and then turned up suspended for the bowl game. I recall him as a heavy hitter, especially on kick coverage, but not necessarily a playmaker. I’d rather have him than not since he is a senior but if he and the coaches are incompatible good luck to him elsewhere. Smart not gonna’ be touchy-feely about these things.

Watch 00:30 in this video. Should have been a game defining play. He was the most physical linebacker on our team and a DGD.

Especially when without him we don’t really have a two deep at ILB. The three LB’s ahead of him haven’t had a history of being extremely durable throughout a season.

He thinks he earned his job in the spring? That’s not the way of the new world Timmy. You earn or lose your job on every rep and every play. Don’t let the door hit ya…..
This will serve as a cautionary tale about entitlement.

We don’t always see eye to eye, but when we do….^^^^THIS!
The former regime would have loved him up….in an attempt to save his ass. Patrick is a beast anyways…PT for Timmy was going to be light at best.

Coming from spring, thinking your job is guaranteed. Doesn’t sound like he wants to compete…

Sounds like good news/bad news to me. I liked when he played and it’s always bad when someone leaves, but if he just didn’t feel like he needed to compete? Well, it’s good news that the coaches are demanding that from the players. In the long run, that’s good for them even they get their noses out of joint a little. You want to play in the NFL? You know what NFL stands for? Not For Long if you don’t produce.

And honestly? That brings us to what, a total of 4 guys that left after Richt was fired? That’s a much lower number than I expected, particularly compared to the exodus that happened when Pruitt came aboard in 2014.

Sounds like he created his own exit. Can’t say I’m all broken up about it.

Apparently Timmy didn’t buy in.

All the more reason why kids should be able to transfer without sitting out any time at all. If coaches aren’t penalized for kicking kids to the curb for reasons of talent, why are kids punished for kicking coaches and schools to the side?

I missed the part in the article where Kirby threw him off the team for not having talent.

Because those with the gold write the golden rules.

Until the kids are paid, count me as someone that believes the scholarship should be for 4 or 5 years so long as the students grades are adequate and he stays out of trouble with the law.

Ummm….I believe the kids are paid

I think as long as the player has adequate grades, follows team rules and shows up for practice, the scholarship is for 4 or 5 years. I don’t remember any players being “cut” for not being good enough on the field.
It sounds like Timmy had some entitlement issues to me.

You are right.
Kirby thought it was entitled to a better player at LB.

I believe I read he walked off the field…and was warned what would happen if he did beforehand. If true, good riddance.

There was always going to be casualties to the process.
Here is one.
So LB depth was light and now Smart is running off LBs. Up next are the long laments about the lack of depth at LB.
Basically just like Pruitt did with the secondary a couple of years ago.
excuse me while I complain about a problem I helped create.

The college football model is so broken now fans don’t know what to think.
Shouldn’t we just stop pretending these kids are students and get on with better defining their football rights?

I thought he would become a solid player. I suppose he thought he was there already. Too bad. I hope he finds playing time at his next stop.

Sounds like he’s having trouble even finding a D2 school. He basically wants to go in and contribute immediately…with 1 month before the season starts and trying to learn a new system. Good luck to him…

Kid made a few good plays for the red and black so let’s just wish him well and move on. No need to benegative about him at all.

That is where I am, I liked him as a player, especially on STs. I still like him, and wish him well, but he and his father’s own words are beginning to sound like sour grapes/attitude. Wish they had just sat on that as it will turn fans away from him. Hope every one moves on from this after today, and that he finds a good school to show what he can do on the field.

Sorry to hear this, welcome to the process. If kids are kicked to the curb they should be able to transfer to another D1 school without sitting a year.

I think he kicked himself to the curb.

bottom line is he didn’t have the physical measurements of what CKS wants at middle linebacker…no matter how good he practiced or how well he played in the past, he wasn’t starting for Kirby’s D…all the talk about acedemics, suspessions, entitlement is just noise…if he was three to four inchestaller he would be competing for a starting job…wish him the best

Players have been quitting or booted forever. Now every time a player gets dissatisfied we break into a deep philosophical discussion about what they call the plantation system. If coaches were still making in the thousands instead of the millions we likely wouldn’t be having this narrative. Sign of the times; class envy and capitalism sucks. Tiring.

Mixed feelings and as always would love to know what the real story is which only he and the staff actually know.
The new staff will have kids wash out and it is better now than during the season. I have said in all the season prediction topics the team will player much better than expected at times and worse at others. We will see kids fall out of playing time and gaining playing time during the season as Smart builds the toughness he wants and the program needs.

One question on this kimbrough thing. We aren’t sitting on 85 are we? In other words, Timmy isn’t getting the shoe to bring in Maurice right?

You are correct. Kirby cleared room for Smith way back when that medical DQ was handed out.
(Honestly, I think there is still room)
