Maybe it’s just me, but as a motivational tactic, I find this a little creepy.

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
You won’t catch the Gus Bus doing that. He pisses off the wrong player and they COULD make it happen…

He’s just claiming “I told you so” ahead of time if and when the NCAA ruling and possible additional punishment comes to roost at his lap.

That is one weird dude.

Will Gus try this in Auburn next?

Shorter Hugh Freeze: if you don’t hustle till you puke three times per practice, deliver concussion producing blows, play hurt, let us numb you up, and generally ruin your body for Ole Miss, they’re gonna call you a quitter and a pussy at your funeral.

I like the part where some folks thought he was someone we should look at to be our HC.

Who thought that? Was certainly not a popular view…

Goodness, there’s so much running through my head after reading that and I think it greatly disappoints me. Yes, there are strong motivational concepts being dealt with there but I’m shocked at how displaced such personal core issues have become. I respect CMR and Saban, and some others – and my impression is that these men do their jobs without being daddy. Without being a parent, the whole thing feels tacky or kitchey to me….

Would it weird me out a little to walk in the room as a player and listen to that? Yes. Is it good that a coach is taking time to force these guys to think about their long term lives for a minute? Yes. Is there some self-interest for Hugh in this related to the sanctions? Maybe. All in all I’m not too bent out of shape over it.

I find having our team watch friday the 13th and nightmare on elm street before scrimmages to be just as odd…and a little disturbing as a motivational ploy

God damn. I don’t know what to say to that. Gives me flashbacks of bad spookhouses from my boyhood. I read the transcript, but I’m afraid to watch the video. That’s fucked up.

Boring.
So this was educational and motivational?
Call me when he let’s Jackie Sherrill castrate him in front of the team.

Google Denzel Nkemdiche and read this story in the context of that story.
I honestly don’t get the national media’s “cute, cuddly Hugh” obsession. Fine, he beat Nick twice, took Napoleon down a couple of notches. Good for him.
He’s just one of those people that make my internal alarms go off. Sort of like Briles. Like a character out of a Sam Shepard play.
