My, how the turntables keep turning, part two

Literally.

We’re under 100 days until the start of the 2023 College Football season and even in May, preseason All-Conference teams are already beginning to trickle out. Athlon Sports put out its All-SEC teams on Monday and Georgia is first in the conference with 15 selections, with Alabama next with 12. For comparison, last year Georgia was second with 13 Athlon Sports All-SEC preseason selections behind Alabama’s 18. This tracks in line with the Dawgs being ranked No. 1 in most preseason polls as the program tries to win back-to-back-to-back national championships.

It’s a little surreal, to be honest.  Not that I’m complaining.

Don’t put much stock in the pre-season magazines anymore. In a Transfer Portal world, can they keep up? Also, as we saw last season, they’ve been so hopelessly biased towards Bama that they were handing out preseason awards to losers like Henry Tuo’Tuo. Brock Bowers is still running free on him for the back breaking TD in Indy.

Now that there’s a closing date for portal entries, the preview mags can get pretty close. There are still players hanging out in the portal and waiting and teams can pull them out at any time so the magazines can’t guarantee they’ve got each team’s roster, but that was always true given preseason injuries, academic issues, etc. Anybody who is still in the portal waiting for a home probably isn’t going to be a huge impact player. Before the NCAA put in the portal windows the magazines didn’t have a prayer.

That’s what I’m saying… like, when was Athlon printed? Do they have Dom Blaylock with the Bugs, as he was a recent joinee?

        They should go digital.

So is this where we do the Bammer thing of finding little slights to complain about? “No UGA players on the 3rd team?? Heresy! Persecution!!”

Milton & Mims are on 3rd team offense. The 13 others are on 1st or 2nd team offense & defense. But there’s no players on the 4th teams!!!…

But really what I’m “outraged” about is the fact that Thorson was left completely off the list. I mean he was a weapon for the Dawgs last year as a freshman. But when I have to “complain” about our punter being left off the list, I guess I’m doing my best impression of a Bammer.

That’s what I’m expecting/hoping too. I was surprised he wasn’t on the 1st or at least the 2nd team offense. Hopefully Mims sees it as disrespect and plays at an All-American level. I’m certain Kirby and Co will make sure it’s used as motivation.

Yeah I meant to type “No UGA players on the 3rd team defense” but it still works as a joke about people we should try to not become

Naa it’s real. We no longer need to pinch ourselves, these kinds of lists are not surprising anymore

This is our current reality & Golden State of Dawg Football.

still can’t believe that an article about the Dawgs references an opportunity for them to go “back-to-back-to-back”

Can’t say “three-peat”, otherwise you have to put a nickel in the Pat Riley money machine….

Pat F-ing Riley. The best part is that he obtained the trademark but didn’t get to use it for his Lakers teams since they lost. Though he did get paid when the Bulls did it a few years later.

The only thing surprising is we have more ALL-SEC picks on O than on D. That is new.

Y’all realize that they’re going crazy over in Alabama over all of this? This is a tough thing for them to deal with.

It’s so surreal that Salvadore Dali should’ve designed Athlon’s 2023 cover. (I ain’t complainin’, either).

I am sitting here in May trying to figure out if I will have enough leave accumulated that I can take a week off to start the new year. Just pop down to NOLA for New Years, hang out a day or two, then drive over to Houston and hang out until the 9th.

Well the only team that can beat Georgia is Georgia. If Kirby can keep us from beating ourselves then he should be the coach of the century.

Just saw this on FX! Nothing to do with this thread of course but I had to share it knowing how the lot of us loved the original: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Oka8f6xh7Yo&pp=ygUfanVzdGlmaWVkIGNpdHkgcHJpbWV2YWwgdHJhaWxlcg%3D%3D

Justified satisfied the pistolero in me. Every boy I grew up with had an inner gunfighter and many practiced the tricks and twirls with cap pistols. I never got into that. My dad emphasized firearms safety and that’s one lesson that stuck. Dad trusted me enough to allow me to tote his Colt Lightning when we camped on the creek checking trot lines and bank hooks from the time I was 12. “For snakes and such.” He hand-loaded #9 shot in a box of .38 Long Colts just for that purpose. I have the pistol and that box of bullets mostly full. Never saw a need to shoot ‘em.
I’ll admit to practicing quick draw with an unloaded pistol until I got pretty good. I had cousins who lived across the Broad River who practiced with live ammo and shooting. Just wild asses. Three brothers. Ralph, Ray and Randy Joe. Dewey Crowe would fit right in with that crowd. They showed up to a reunion once with the youngest, Randy Joe, on crutches, his foot heavily wrapped.
Nobody doubted the quick-draw accident story. Fuckn idiots.
Truth was they were drinking and shooting. Ray told Randy to dance. Randy refused. One shot left of his foot. Next shot to the right. Third shot impact.
      “By gawd he danced then!”
      Fuckn idiots.
Anyhow, I’m looking forward to Justified: City Primeval. I’ll practice my Border Roll skills while watching.
      With an empty 1911.
