“But Georgia is where kids like him go.”

Ari Wasserman sees Dylan Raiola’s commitment to Georgia ($$) and despairs.

This isn’t a Raiola problem. He did nothing wrong. Hell, I would have done the same thing. When you’re living your own life with fantasies of becoming an NFL star, you want to set yourself up properly to achieve those dreams. Going to Ohio State, where he was originally committed, or Georgia or Alabama is what prospects believe gives them the highest possible odds of reaching their goals. Those teams have first-round pick after first-round pick and cultivate environments that make that seem routine…

In the end, what Georgia has to sell is too good to pass up. You can’t blame Raiola or his family for buying what Georgia is selling, either. We’re just left with the same unanswerable questions.

What is it going to take to buck this trend?

What is it going to take to achieve real parity?

What is it going to take for college football to get to a place where correctly predicting the national champion is more complex than pointing at one of five schools?

I don’t know about you, but that doesn’t sound too bad to me.
