Georgia’s ten most memorable plays of 2007, #2

Georgia vs. Auburn, November 10:

Georgia at 6:47 AUB GA
1st and 10 at GA 32 Knowshon Moreno rush for a loss of 3 yards to the Geo 29. 20 17
2nd and 13 at GA 29 Georgia penalty 0 yard ineligible downfield on pass off-setting accepted, Auburn penalty 0 yard personal foul off-setting, NO PLAY. accepted, no play.
2nd and 13 at GA 29 Matthew Stafford pass complete to Sean Bailey for 45 yards to the Aub 26 for a 1ST down.
1st and 10 at AUB 26 Thomas Brown rush for 2 yards to the Aub 24.
2nd and 8 at AUB 24 Knowshon Moreno rush for 24 yards for a TOUCHDOWN. 20 24

In my mind, there were three plays last year that stood out in terms of showcasing an individual player’s athletic gifts: that stunning sideline pass that Stafford threw against Georgia Tech, the Howard fumble-inducing sack of Brennan in the Sugar Bowl and this play.

Moreno’s body control on the run is incredible – and not just the “lingerie on the field” cut, either. There’s a little cut/shimmy move he puts on Groves (you can see it best at around 1:31 on the clip) that, along with some pretty sensational blocking, gets him through the line of scrimmage and off towards the goal line.

Speaking of runs, with this score, Georgia went back ahead in the game and never looked back with a closing spurt of 28 unanswered points.

And as electric as the mood in the stadium became, it’s worth noting that of all the plays on this list, this is the one that most seems to have grown larger in the aftermath, likely thanks to Uncle Verne. Mike Slive, before you take Fox’s check with the new broadcast contracts, you might want to remember that.

Reason #1043 why Stacy Searles deserves to be paid more money than any offensive line coach in D-1 football.

God bless YouTube.. I’ve been watching 2007 highlights for the last 20 minutes before I remembered where I started.

This was a good run, with GREAT blocking. But definitely shouldnt be top 2…or even top 5 imo.
Still enjoying the list for the most part though….

    “Uncle Verne.”

Good to know I’m most certainly not the only one who feels that way. I swear, nothing against Scott Howard, Jeff Dantzler or Eric Zier, but I’d take Uncle Verne in the booth after Munson any day of the week.

I live for CBS evening games with him and Danielson.
