They only come out at night.

Marc Weiszer reports that it’s a clean sweep on the back end of the schedule in that the Tech game has been scheduled for an 8:00 PM start.  Selfishly speaking, at least the drive home will be significantly shorter for me, and for those of you tuning in at home, an ABC broadcast should spare you another night with the Davie-Jones team.

I had the “pleasure” of watching the rebroadcast of the game with the Davie-Jones team.

Now I do not get to see many games on TV as I do not usually watch the rebroadcast after being there so I may not be the best judge of ability, but really? Is that what ESPN is down to now?

Davie-Jones (a great political ticket I am sure) seemed to spend the nite alternating between being bored, distracted, uninterested, with just a dash of stupidity thrown in for good measure (how many times did we have to hear it was a shoulder injury before someone whispered into his ear piece they do not use a back board and immoblize the neck for a shoulder injury).

For those who have to watch this pair regularly I am deeply sorry.

The boredom was what got me. I haven’t heard a pair of announcers act so demonstratively disinterested about a Georgia game since the Hawai’i Sugar Bowl disaster on FOX.

And it was a good game! Really, really good game! The play wasn’t perfect, but objectively speaking, the back-and-forth was great.

Listening to Bob Davie ramble on was making me pine for the awfulness that are Verne and Gary. Seriously, midway through the 3rd quarter I was ready to puncture my ear drums with the nearest, sharpest object I could locate.

Oh how I miss the days of being able to mute the tv and turn on Munson.

Given GA’s day game vs. night game record. I like our chances now.

Davie and Jones, or anybody else breathing for that matter, don’t approach the suckulation of Mr. Musburger, which is who we’ll probably get.

I liked during the GA on the final drive I believe Davie or Jones I forget which, said “Key for AU is for them to score more points.” I thought that was great. Also when he called AU QB Joe Cox was a good one.

He also said that Auburn was on the 53 yard line. Even my wife caught that one.

As Brent would say in defense of not only himself but the Davie-Jones duo, “So Brent Musberger can’t remember your third-string platoon uber-red-shirt wideout’s last name or Jones can’t remember the size of a football field or Davie cant’t remember that they don’t use a total immobilizSo what? You forget shit all the time.”

Who tunes in to football games to hear insightful commentary? I know I’m expecting to hear political platforms on coaching salaries and the legality of facebook accounts.

I like playing Tech on the Flats at night. Always brings back the first Georgia game I ever saw: the 1975 Tech game on a cold windy Thanksgiving night in Atlanta. Pepper Rogers’ nationally broadcasted halftime pep talk slowed Georgia down so much we only scored two more touchdowns in the third quarter.

1971 … Thanksgiving night at Grant Field on national TV. Tech scores and kicks off to us with less than 1:30 left in the game.

My mother broke her leg celebrating when Jimmy Poulos leapt over the pile into the endzone on the last play of the game for the win.

      Man, I’m getting old …

I dunno, I didn’t get to watch the broadcast, but from the accounts I’m reading, it sounds almost like Davie-Jones is a so-bad-its-good kind of thing-like “Plan 9 From Outer Space” or that “boom goes the dynamite” kid. Anyone can be bad, it takes a special kind of anti-talent to be really, really bad.

I was in attendance for the game, but watched the rebroadcast on Sunday. Good god, what an awful broadcast. That commentary was the worst I’ve ever heard. It was incredible… in situation where the stadium was on pins and needles, these guys had the camera focused on themselves, and were talking about stupid crap like salaries and “what makes a rivalry” (which, Bob Davie defined at least 13 times as “not just geographic location… but geography is a big part). Honestly, it was a disgrace. Here was a great game being played and these two morons couldn’t talk about the game. And when they DID talk about the game, they showed just how little they actually know ab0ut the damned game by completely missing what was going on with formations, where the ball should be spotted, and what body part is injured. Note to both clowns: when a wide receiver lands on his shoulder and comes off the field, it’s not because his wrist got hurt, and when a safety hits somebody head on and they put him on a stretcher… it’s not because his shoulder is hurt.

Davie must have had it pounded through his thick skull when he was an elementary school kid, like it was in mine, on how to spell the very tough word of ‘geography’ – george edwards old goat ran a pig home yesterday.

Once you learn it, you never forget it and really, really like to deploy the big word ‘geography’ whenever and wherever possible and most especially when it’s redundant because even then it still sounds better than ‘the 53 yard line.’
