That’s Mark Bradley quoting Vince Dooley and it’s as appropriate an epitaph for Uga VII as I can think of. Maybe he wasn’t as feisty as some of his predecessors, but he still wore the jersey well.
I second Paul’s condolences to the Seiler family.
But I also had to laugh at Orson’s take:
“How we can lose a damn good dawg like this and still have Willie Martinez is…it’s just…it’s just not right.”
Seriously, scan the interwebs and see how many feel a need to say something about his passing. How many mascots engender that kind of response?
Rest in peace, boy.
I was a Bulldog in high school. I was a Bulldog in college. I will always be a Bulldog. Rest in peace UgaVII. You will always be remembered as a “damn good dog.” The flags are at half-mast in Dawgtown.

as usual, the Tech jackasses on their message boards are having a ball mocking this whole situation. They have lots of class. It’s just all low.
Tech people have all the qualities of a dog, except for loyalty and social skills.

Tech doesn’t even really have a mascot. The “Yellow Jackets” designation does not refer to flying insects. It refers to when Tech students used to wear yellow sport coats and ties to games–hence the moniker. The jalopy they call the “Ramblin’ Wreck” hardly qualifies as it is an inanimate object without heart or feeling ( much like Ga Tech itself). Tekkies are left only to yearn for a true mascot and, failing to have one, can only hide their true despair by falsely ridiculing those that do.

And, recall the pests’ chagrin in 2007 when their jalopy was wrecked. No photos were released until WMEZ posted a couple.
The kid who wrecked it said “(a)nything that disrespects the Ramblin’ Wreck would be against my job. It is my job to protect the physical car itself, and its traditions.” Don’t they teach English over there?
By the way, in looking for that quote I came across my new favorite invective for the little, yellow bastards … the Mustard Nation. Love it!

If Tech is the Mustard Nation UT must surely be the Hot Dog Nation.

I heard a rumor Richt is calling for an all black dog next week to get the team hyped for Kentucky.
Rest easy DGDawg.

Great line by Vince. We all mourn, and miss, any Uga that passes, but there was something always missing from Uga VII. He never had the energy and life other Uga’s have had on the sidelines and at activities/events. Maybe he was sicker than anyone knew all along. Here’s hoping he feels better looking down on Sanford from a wonderful place with those who came before him.
I guess we will get a “temp” for the remainder of the year. I hope we get a young, playful Uga pup next fall who can be here for a revival of Uga VI’s success with SEC titles.

I’m really not trying to be a dick here because it’s sad the dog died so young… but I said the moment he became UGA VII that he looked terribly unhealthy. I realize English bulldogs in general aren’t the healthiest of breeds, but UGA VII just looked rough. The extreme lethargy he displayed during games wasn’t very encouraging, either.
And I know Sonny Seiler has forgotten more about breeding bulldogs than I’ll ever know, but I still wonder why UGA VII looked and acted so unhealthy.
R.I.P.

i should have read Mac’s and dudetheplayer’s posts before i did this one this a.m. on yesterday’s:
Thanks, Mac. Sorry about that. I got stuck on cut and paste and shot right past the 8 mile marker but then i thought, Heck, thought nothing else was going on.
Had i known the Dawg died, i wouldn’t have done that.
But who can’t like DawgBiscuit’s (who shall be forever more known to me to the CSI guy of GTP) 7:10 p.m. post, above, as to the likely cause of cardiac arrest.
And to soapbox it, all those who don’t know that English Bulldogs are having the life bred out of them by breeders, raise your hand. Anyone? Anyone?
With all due respect to, and no animosity toward, the Seilers and anyone else who owns and/or breeds English Bulldogs, which don’t get me wrong i still love, to me the way those dogs have been bred over the generations puts the good health of the dog and longevity of life of the dog at the very bottom of the trait list.

One comment to the EDSBS story had me chuckling: Ralphie and Bevo are better mascots than Uga because they can be eaten after they die.
Well, it’s true.
