This weekend, Zach Mettenberger is visiting quarterback-challenged LSU as he looks to rejoin the D-1 ranks. He’s been offered scholarships by at least eight schools, including heavyweights like Arkansas and Alabama. But the Tigers are thought to lead for his signature. Their secret for success might surprise you:
“If I had to guess, at the top of his list would be LSU,” Mettenberger’s father, Bernie Mettenberger, said Thursday. “That’s from my conversations with Zach. He’s never been down there to LSU, but his favorite show is ‘Swamp People.’ And he’s got a real close relationship with Les Miles.”
“Swamp People” is a documentary series on the History Channel that chronicles the lives of a Cajun family on the Atchafalaya River basin.
Wow, the things that influence college kids’ decisions.

Still a shame it worked out like it did. I hope he’s successful (except at our expense).

So that’s why we’ve slipped in recruiting lately. There’s just not enough good shows based on Athens living!

Weird, I’ve posted several videos here before the way I was trying to do it and never had a problem. Maybe the wordpress changes changed that? Anyways, thanks for fixing that.

I hope it works out for him…but they could be recruiting a liability. The relative speed with which Mettenberger blew his chance to start at UGA with his behavior is impressive even for a college freshman.

What little we saw of him reminded me of Ryan Mallet. Big, not too mobile, and a cannon for an arm. He’s probably do well with Petrino at Ark.

Kirby (always the negative recruiter) has sent the Mettneberger family a complimentary copy of this:

So he’s basing his decision on where to go based in part on a reality show about backwoods people in the swamps of the bayou? He always did strike me as a smart kid…

That’s because Les also showed Zach how he could have an even closer relationship with swamp food too.

I’ve watched Swamp People. There ain’t NO women on that show that look anything like the females in the video posted above. Not only that, but from the look of some of those people’s digs, I find it hard to believe that they’re shelling out $5K to $10K on implants. But that’s just me.
As for the real subject at hand, I hate it for Mett (and I really do), but I think that the Dawgs have found themselves their best college QB since Richt took over. I’m happy that Stafford was the #1 pick, because that perhaps means something to recruits (I’m neither downplaying that or being facetious…I honestly don’t know one way or the other). But Stafford didn’t win the Dawgs shit and he had Knowshon toting the rock. Murray’s not won anything himself, but I have great hopes after watching him this season and I believe that he is going to be something special.
If Mett does well, wherever he winds up, I’ll be happy for him. Georgia couldn’t keep him after what happened, but if people like Chris Rainey and Cam Newton deserve a second chance then Mett deserves one as much or more so.

Judging QBs based on championships is horribly unfair, but Stafford was a bad QB his freshman year, pretty good his sophomore year and very good his junior year. Murray is already good as a redshirt freshman. If he progresses at all he should be great by the time he leaves school. Georgia still may not have won anything with him though.

Given to overstatement/understatement at the same time, bro? Stafford was not “bad” his freshman year. He was just a freshman and, nevertheless, led the Dawgs to a 9-4 season. He was actually damn good his second year. His third year he was the #1 player taken in the NFL draft. Nuff said.

His stats don’t back that up. I consider a 51% completion percentage and 7 TDs to 13 INTs bad. Throwing for 2,400 yards with 19 TDs and 10 INTs is pretty good, and 3,500 yards with 25 TDs to 10 INTs is very good. I’d call it great if he hadn’t thrown four of those picks in a key game against Florida.
