“I think someone smelled the vodka.”

If Daniel Burnett were a football player, I think we all know what the Red & Black would have to say about this.

Pithy – not pissy – comment from AJC … and he(or she) stole my tagline!

At least someone is working hard to protect that #1 party school ranking! If you can’t protect the house, how do you expect to come out on top at the end of the season?

I don’t drink vodka because I’m male, but isn’t it supposedly odorless? Either way, he must have been hammered and making people uncomfortable to get kicked out of that box.

The R&B is a student run newspaper that crucifies other students as often as possible. A story about a 19 year old getting an MIP downtown is simply not newsworthy and just contributes to the publication’s tabloid image.

Well, he isn’t an elected official with his paws on the purse strings of the public so it’s not kosher for him to have a tipple in the President’s box (or to appear he’s had a little too much before a night game).

However, given the R&B’s propensity to publish MIPs/DUIs/etc on the front page, it’s sort of karmic.

No, vodka, contrary to popular (among the girls) wisdom, is most certainly not odorless.

“Nice bangs,” which would entitle him to an automatic and immediate admission to ‘Bama should he ever decide to transfer because of the overwhelmingness of getting booted from the President’s Box before passing out.

      h/t Go Dawgs!
or maybe Samuel L. Jackson saw him and said: “I’ve had it! I’m tired of these mother(bleep)ing Bama Bangs in the mother(bleep)ing President’s Box!”

Amen. I don’t know what drives me more nuts – the banging bangs or the constant head flipping that goes with them.

If they were ever cut short, I can only imagine the forehead looking like the before shot in a ProActiv commercial.

This was the same kid who attempted to make the news, rather than report it when he made a complaint to the IFC in order to get them to investigate Kappa Sig. He finally got the opportunity to be the subject of a headliner.

Yes, it’s delightful to pile on the R&B, what with their high-larious investigations this fall and all, BUT…

So the kid wasn’t making a scene, just pressing flesh and having his picture taken with the bigwigs, and one of Sonny or Deal’s handlers (and neither two drink, EVER, mind you) smelled vodka on him (and it’s gameday for a night game against Tech, mind you), and kicked him out? And this leads to him having to resign from the R&B?

Weaaaak sauce. Can we as a society at least admit that grown-ups drink? Is that OK? It happens, teetotallers in civic power. Your neighbors may be doing it right now. Get over it.

“and neither two drink, EVER, mind you”

This was not meant as sarcasm. Both as dry as a boring bone.

Being dry does not mean being boring, Mr. Nation.I know plenty of great people who are “dry as a boring bone”. I also know lots of boring drunks. The cliches about drunkards are all true. I should know, because I’ve been there.

You’re assuming the kid is telling the truth about not being disruptive. That’s the weak sauce. Personally, I very much doubt that either politicians or school administrators would make a scene regarding a kid that had a couple of cocktails before quietly watching the game.

The much more believable scenario is that the kid got good and liquored up, and then acted like a jackass in the President’s box.

Where are you getting this presumption that he wasn’t making a scene? From him?

In fact, the spokesman from the President’s office reported that he was being disruptive and was asked to leave. He reported that he wasn’t. I know when I was drunk and disruptive in college, I never thought I was that way. Seems this kid has the same blinders on that I had.

Exactly. I sincerely doubt that he had it all together and didn’t say/do anything wrong as he claims. Look, the country club crowd finds alcohol charming. They wouldn’t have a problem with a whiff of vodka, just what usually comes along with drinking it.

“I apologized. I made a mistake,” Burnett added. “But I never would have thought it would blow up to this.”

Hanging a football player out to dry…roll of paper and bucket of ink. Having it done to you…PRICELESS.

Too bad that Chief Jimmy Williamson wasn’t in the box as well…or maybe he was but got confused because the kid didn’t look like a football player.

He’s sitting in the president’s box with the gov. Time to act a little differently than if yo are in section 119 wiff yo homezzz.

They didn’t throw him out because of a whif of vodka.

He was on a big stage and he blew it.

Yep, the kid drank before a football game, right before being face to face with Michael Adams in an enclosed space.
I (and I’m sure Governor Deal) would have NEVER done that.
          I stand corrected?

Our former Provost used to go to the UGA boxes like some geriatric hall monitor and make sure no spirits were in supply. Of course, if you go to the box next door owned by a distributor, the atmosphere is about like Mardi Gras. Alas, this is how the upper tier of UGA faculty operates.

What a moron….he got what he deserved. If you are invited to the President’s Box where the currente Governor and Governor Elect are going to be you have a DIET COKE at the tailgate before hand….not vodka, bourbon or any other “fire water”. What an idiot.

If it was anybody else I would be up in arms. Piss on that weasel. In 1990 I was a “contributing sports writer” when the Red And Black was an award winning newspaper, not that sorry ass rag it is now. He already was making us all look bad with his tabloid journalism, now he has taken it to another level.
