In the annals of below the belt recruiting in the SEC, this has to rank right near the top:
Raven said rival schools had repeatedly made him aware of a 2009 Ku Klux Klan demonstration on the Ole Miss campus, one that was met by a student-led, multi-racial, non-violent protest of the Klan’s presence. The implication from rival recruiters was racism was a problem at Ole Miss.
Somehow, I doubt things were left on an implied level.
Stay classy, you guys.
Wouldn’t the fact that such a KKK demonstration was met by “a student-led, multi-racial, non-violent protest of the Klan’s presence” really indicate that racism is NOT a problem at Ole Miss?

I suspect that was not pointed out in the conversation.

We still have racism in America?
All joking aside, it is a low blow. Reminds me of this crazy guy in Gainesville that wanted to burn Qurans. He is not representative of 99.9999% of the people in Gainesville yet the media latched on to him and made Gainesville seem like a radical Christian community. Perceptions are hard to overcome.

How ridiculous. Everyone knows Gainesville is full of Al-Qaeda sympathizers.

Even so, the would-be book burner is not too popular in Gainesville

I don’t get the big deal. They burn books in Gainesville from the University of Florida library all the time. Some haven’t even been colored yet.

Hmmmm…possible presence of latent racism vs. excusing criminal mischief:
– Burgulary
– Possession of narcotics
– Emerging from a driveway without stopping (yes! It’s and offense in Eugene too! Go figure….)
– Driving with suspended license
How could you possible pass-up going to Ol’ Miss??

Meh… I gotta tell you, I’ve spent some time in the great state of Mississippi, and I can assure you that it is still dead last in the country in terms of race relations. It’s not Ole Miss’ fault that there were a bunch of jackasses doing the KKK thing there, certainly they weren’t students. But just do some YouTube searching for reactions to the Colonel Reb thing and the school ending the playing that Dixie song. You’ll see a lot of Bama-banged frat guys who ARE students there dropping the n-word all over the place. Not that there’s not racism at UGA or Alabama or anywhere else in our league. But let’s face it, a kid in suburban Florida or somewhere like that probably has never experienced the kind of racism they’ve got in Mississippi. I have no problem with pointing out that life’s going to be a little different there.
