I have a working theory. Aaron Murray is a very good player who is going to be great because he obsesses about his mistakes.
“I usually lay in bed at night thinking about every single loss and what plays here and there I could have made,” Murray said Wednesday. “If you go back and look at the games we’ve lost, most of it is due to our errors. It’s tough at night reflecting on the plays we could have had this year that could have changed our season.”
Or as Richt admitted, “When we did turn it over, there were some very inopportune times for those to happen.”
Georgia has committed 14 turnovers this season after having 28 a year ago, but Ealey’s fumbles prevented the Bulldogs from tying the games in Columbia and Starkville. King’s fumble allowed Colorado to escape in what would be the final victory in the Dan Hawkins era, but there is no doubt which miscue Murray wants back most.
“Definitely the pick from Florida,” he said. “The way we were able to come back in that game and put it into overtime, we really felt like we had a shot to win.”
Maybe next year he can fall asleep thinking better thoughts.

He should be commended for his play at the end of the int. though. That was a tremendous gutsy hit which slowed the return just enought to stop it. I give him a lot of credit for that hustle.

I thought the same thing for both him and King that ultimately pushed the defender out. With Henry’s kicking, the field goal was not a certain thing. It would have been easy to let the UF guy score (and some previous teams might have), but they played it to the whistle, which was big.
Murray is going to be big time, and I think his attitude will rub off on the team.

You’ll do better, Aaron. Almost all of Dawg Nation believes you can turn the team around next year, even if that not what they say on blog comments. Doesn’t make for exciting reading. Work hard and stay fundamental. If TCU/BSts can play smart solid football, so can you guys. Then good things will come.

I received this email from a friend, it did not specify the source of the content. However, I think it deserves its own blog entry if true.
Washaun Ealey and Mike Gilliard said they were just happy they could be in the right place at the right time.
Ealey was behind the wheel when a campus bus they were following slid off the road during icy conditions at 10 p.m. on Wednesday night, slamming into a tree near the intersection of Cedar Street and Sanford Drive.
But that’s when the two Bulldogs sprang into action, helping the injured driver who was briefly trapped in her seat, until police and paramedics arrived.
The driver was the only person on the bus at the time of the crash.
“We had just eaten at the Oglethorpe House and were driving behind the bus,” Ealey said. “When it turned, I saw it start to skid and didn’t think much of it, but it went off the road and went head-on into a tree. We got down there as quick as we could and helped the driver get out. She was pretty shaken up and there was a lot of broken glass. We just helped her get out and made sure she was OK.”
After getting a bystander to call 911, the two players stayed with the young woman until help arrived.
“I’ve seen cars skid there other times so it really didn’t surprise me at first,” Gilliard said. “When I saw it skid off the road, it startled me and I thought ‘Oh man. We better get over there and see if everyone is OK,'” Gilliard said. “We didn’t know how many people were on the bus. We didn’t know it was just the driver until we got there.”
According to Ealey, the bus crashed head-on into a tree, resulting in a large limb breaking through the windshield, barely missing the driver.
The players forced their way through the bus doors to get to the woman inside.
“She was panicking, crying, things like that; we just had to get to her,” said Ealey. “It was hard (opening the door) at first, but then the adrenalin started rushing and it was kind of easy.”
Neither player said they got the woman’s name and left once paramedics arrived.
“Those two guys did a very good deed,” Richt said in a statement. “They stopped and helped out and I’m proud of them. The assisted someone who was in distress, which is a good thing.”
Ealey and Gilliard were headed home with the accident occurred.
“It really wasn’t a big deal,” Gilliard said. “We just wanted to help out, that’s all. I’m just glad we were able to give a hand.”

At the end of the day …. should I wish for some Florida style legal counsel that protects/enhances our program. That Florida player that went “time to die” made a big difference in our last Ga/Fla game….. the absence of AJ made a difference in ours in prior games too. Recruiting violations, numbers signed and let go due to “injury” …. are we not in the “game”. Are we not “those kind of men”. Should we become those men to win. I hope not.

Wish we had someone who knew the rules for celebration penalty in that situation. Game wasn’t over so how is that not a 15 yarder and UF starts from the 40 instead. Of course I have to say, with the way our defense played, it probably wouldn’t have mattered.

Even against the Gators, that would have been a BS call. They thought they’d won the game. It took several minutes of replay to see that the player had stepped out before the goal line.

Certainly not knocking Murray, but all the former football players I know still obsess about their bad games.
When I see one of my old high school buddies over Xmas, at some point in the conversation he will shake his head at his fumble in the state championship, but never mention the three touchdowns he had in the game that got us to the state championship.
All of which makes a great cornerback even more special.

What makes me more and more angry every time I watch this overtime is the 3rd down play, but not because of Murray. Sure it was an ill-advised through, but on a 3 man rush, all 3 get through and are in his face. Here’s hoping Coach T whips these boys into OT shape.

Man, no kidding…that play is a perfect example of unforced poor execution and its consequences. Murray has to throw early and off his back foot because the rush is in his face, and Orson runs his route too deep and allows the LB essentially to play two guys, staying close enough to both to cut away from Charles toward AJ and still be in position–because the ball was thrown too early and Orson ran his route too deep. There are two protections in the play’s design to the LB not being able to step in front of that pass and we screwed up both of them.

I still think Shawn Williams could’ve/should’ve intercepted the 2nd down pass in overtime! Seems like he was playing Willie D.
But to the point of the article, yes Murray is a great guy. I think it is refreshing as fans to hear that a player obsesses over a loss like many of us do. I’m sure most of the players do but we never get to hear about it unless it is in a generic “the team is really hurting” type comment. It is scary to think how much better this kid can get with his attitude and work ethic.

I said as much to Kyle about AM after the UF game and in typical him fashion he kinda rained on my suggestion. I said I felt like AM was so anguished after that game that he would not lose to them again to which TKK replied something like, “Yeah, well, I thought that about Stafford, too.”

I love AM but as an Old Dawg I get the sick feeling in my stomach that he is going to be like Eric Zier a great QB on yet another mediocre UGA team. I have lost faith in Mark’s ability to get a complete football team together for a whole game let alone a whole season.
