Boomie, you’re doing a heck of a job.

Tell the truth – did you ever expect to see a header like this before the season started?

Welcome back to the 1970’s, Gators.

Good time to live in Jax. Arkansas needs to get it done today. UF wins today, but I give them little chance next week vs SC.

Must admit I thought Boom would do a better job. Of course, at the time I thought hiring Fat Charlie was a big mistake, and it looks like that was correct so at least I was half right. Since I hate the Gators I am happy to be wrong about Muscrat, at least so far.

Just the opposite for me. Weis was the key in my mind since Muskrat is a D coach and hadn’t done too well the last two seasons in Texas. In fact, the “Coach-in-Waiting job was disappearing from his plate. Thought Weis would use all that firepower more skillfully than he has. Not to have a premier running back in the cupboard was the deal breaker and we know who’s responsible for that.

Looks like we were both wrong.

As someone who has lived in Jacksonville through the best of Gator times and some of the worst for us, I cannot begin to explain how vindicated I feel these days. When Florida had Timmy behind center and couldn’t lose, I calmly told my gator friends (yes I have some) that all this won’t last, never does, and enjoy it now. I was told to shut it and asked if my team would get to .500 for the year. Then someone would ask why I continually tortured myself by going to the cocktail party – and so on and so on.

Now, it’s quiet around here. The pendulum has swung away from Florida as I confidently predicted it would. What many of you guys that live in Georgia and other states might not realize is that Florida fans actually live up to the stereotypes, and I believe they embrace them. They have won for so long and have gotten away with taunting for so long that they feel it is their inherent right to do so. In their minds, they were winners before Spurrier, so one can imagine the massive amount of hubris accumulated over two decades. It is often insufferable.

I believe that few programs can achieve a run like Florida has had, and that’s not to say they will not improve next year, but the trend of the past 50 years of college football has seen teams overachieve for a period only to step back and underachieve and struggle or an equal if not longer period of time. A few dynasty names come to mind: Nebraska, USC, Notre Dame, Miami, Oklahoma, Alabama, Texas, and for a short while teams like Georgia, LSU, Colorado and a few others. Who would have ever imagined that after the ’95 season that Nebraska would be where they are now? Or USC? Alabama and Oklahoma when through very long droughts before regaining there magic.

I hope that Florida is done for a while and that it’s 10-15 years before we see them truly dangerous again. That said, this state is full of recruits, resources (money), and Florida fans will not tolerate losing for long. As long as Jeremy Foley is in charge, I don’t look for them to fall off too far. Should he retire (which he eventually will), I look for them to take a further step back in their return to mediocrity.

All this, as it looks as though our return to the top looks to just be starting again.

My wife and I hosted a large Halloween party represented by several SEC schools – UGA, USC, TN, and yes, FL. As we tapped the keg and started watching the cocktail party, the taunts were merciless from the FL fan. But unbelievably, the rants, cussing, and comparisons to past Florida teams became WORSE when they started losing.

I told him, “You know how I know you’re a Florida fan? Because you have no idea how to lose.” He did stop cussing long enough to listen to my comment.

Here’s to hoping he gets a chance to learn how to learn in future seasons!

It’s really a shame because the Gators used to be very good losers. In the 70’s and 80’s they were gracious in defeat but once they started to win they became insufferable. I think that has to do with the number of non- alumni that jump on the band wagon. Anyway the band wagon will lighten if this keeps up.

Non-alums of the worst sort. Rednecks who couldn’t even to this day can’t name a team member. Hell, half of’em think Tebow’s still playing and he just beat the U. They embarrass many FU alums that I know. UGA has it’s share, but not like these pickle heads who fly the Gator flag from their pickups, although I haven’t seen any lately. My Bulldog tirecover on the suv gets a look . but no more shouted comments. It’s good to be the Dawgs in FU’s down era.

The older fans know how to lose, it’s the younger, mouthier generation that’s in for a painful ride. And I am all too happy to watch them whine as they experience it.

I agree. Living in Jax as well, I see the best and worst of the rivarly. I have some Gator friends I consider among my best, and we mouth at each other, but just good fun. However, I have had my license plate smashed, Georgia flags stolen, etc. so I know the trashy, mouthy element that think all it will take for Florida to come back is to bring Corch back. They are not even smart enough to realize he is the one that left the cupboard bare and ran before he could get fingered with the crime.
