Kids these days – where’s their sense of priorities?

I mean, what can you do?

Saturday’s expected team flip-flopping has even removed the traditional reward to the winning team and punishment to the losing team — a steak and lobster dinner for the victors and Beanee Weenees to the losers.

Not that any Bulldogs will apparently shed any tears over the game’s decreased stakes.

“We’re just going to play ball for the love of the game and for the love of playing between the hedges in front of family and friends and the fans and TV,” Richt said. “We’re not doing steak and lobster.

“The problem with that is half the kids like the Beanee Weenees better than the steak and lobster, so it just doesn’t seem to be a good motivator.”

Somewhere in this great land of ours – probably behind bars – Willie Williams hears this and shakes his head.

Much like hash browns, franks and beans are hard to stuff in your sweatpants . . .

Apparently the Attorney General of Georgia, taking a leaf out of the Alabama Attorney General’s book, told Richt that playing for dinners was gambling and would result in criminal prosecutions for CMR, all the coaches, all the players and (glimmer of hope here) President Michael Adams.

Senator, I realize this was a tossed off posting but I also think it inadvertently (or directly) ties in with your post about Justin Scott-Wesley. I work for a non-profit that deals with issues of hunger and poverty, mostly around the Atlanta area. I work in many of the impoverished neighborhoods that some of the best athletes come out of. We try to provide those in need the freshest, most nutritious food we can but time and time again, they would rather take any item that can be quickly zapped in the microwave or poured out of a can. It’s what they have known all their lives because it is cheap (i.e. – Beanie Weenies). I know Richt was joking about the Beanie Weenies but I think it’s true. In the world some of these athletes come out of, that’s what they’re comfortable with.

Hate to cite this but, see also: The Wire – Season 4 (School system season). In particular the episode where Bunny Colvin takes the kids out for a steak dinner at a nice restaurant.

I was waiting for an opportunity to hijack a thread on this blog and talk about the awesomeness that is The Wire: one of the greatest works of art/commentary of the last decade if you ask me.

Don’t blame Willie for the lobster. Like SOS, it’s an acquired taste. Did you add up the calories in his FSU meal?
