I was going to post this yesterday, but paid my respects to the late Doc Watson instead. Today, though, is about something to celebrate – Neil Young’s first album with the entire Crazy Horse lineup since 1996. It’s called Americana and it’s an interesting concept.
Neil Young and Crazy Horse will put out an album of reworked American folk songs this summer for an LP called Americana (“Clementine,” “She’ll Be Comin’ Round The Mountain,” that kind of thing). It’s the first collaboration between Young and Crazy Horse since 2003′s Greendale and the first featuring Crazy Horse’s current full roster (Billy Talbot, Ralph Molina, Frank “Poncho” Sampedro) since 1996′s Broken Arrow. Young went on record about the release earlier this year, telling Rolling Stone that “”A very young choir of children plays with Crazy Horse [on the album]. They’re songs we all know from kindergarden, but Crazy Horse has rearranged them, and they now belong to us.”

Senator, just curious on your thoughts about Mirror Ball, the album NY did with Peal Jam. Being 35 yrs old, PJ is definitely one of my favorite bands and I’m a huge fan of pretty much anything that came from the “grunge era”. I can totally see your man-crush on the “Godfather of Grunge”, what are your thoughts on the “grundge-music” era?

Never been a big PJ fan, although I like Nirvana. Grunge as a whole didn’t do that much for me, to tell you the truth.

Interesting…I would think you’d lean more toward PJ than Nirvana if you’re not a grunge fan, cuz I think they’re much closer to classic rock. But hey, to each his own. I like it all myself.
PJ has a live album called “Live on Two Legs” they put out before they started releasing all their individual concerts. They’ve got a version of “F’in Up” on there that they actually dedicate to Neil Young on the album. You should check it out if you haven’t heard it before.

Look, I love Neil Young. I particularly love “American Star and Bars”, “On the Beach”, “Time Fades Away” and “Tonight’s The Night” among many others. But, that sounds like there should be an SNL skit with it. In fact, if I found myself on a long road trip listening to that, I might find the first 150 yr old oak tree to run into at full speed.

I appreciate the effort but remain unimpressed. Mother Jones wouldn’t buy it. We are kinda wearing the Griffen meme out. Negro spirituals used again to express some agenda. I have all of NY music sheets and even some harmonica riffs, but not this. Neil doesn’t touch BD’s innovation. BD still does write. Lazy work …repetitive ….. predictable…. sorry. No Harvest or Heart of Gold!!!!!!!!!!!
