Sounds like some of Todd Gurley’s teammates are getting all hubba-hubba over the true freshman.
“Special,” senior safety Shawn Williams said. “When I’m standing on the sideline and watching, all I can say is, ‘Wow!’ I don’t want to say too much, but when I saw that [number] 3 running down through there today, I was like, ‘that’s going to be a Trent Richardson right there.’ That’s what I can say. Big and fast, that’s all I can see.”
Said wide receiver Chris Conley, who had a pretty good day himself with 4 catches for 114 yards and a score: “I’m seeing a lot of great things out of Todd. He’s definitely maturing fast. He’s definitely picking up the plays very fast. He’s finding the running lanes, he’s got great vision and he’s actually got a lot of speed for a guy who’s that big. He has a knack for staying on his feet when he gets hit and he’ll just keep moving. It gets me very excited whenever you see a running back who can create plays like that when there’s really nothing there.”
Trent Richardson? Makes me wonder what Shawn Williams is like when he does say too much.
No snark intended but why is Shawn Williams comparing the guy to Trent Richardson? Shawn’s never even played Trent Richardson.

Since when is playing against a guy a prerequisite for making a comparison to him? I’m pretty sure we make such comparisons all the time without having played against them. I’m positive Shawn Williams has seen Trent Richardson play.

Yeah…I’m sure us humble, internet non-arena dwellers have never seen a player on television or at a game and made an offhand comment about how he reminded us of another player. Nope, never has happened. 😉

If he’s even close to Trent Richardson we’ll be in pretty good shape.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure S. Williams has never faced T. Richardson on the field…right?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the quote was of him watching Gurley run. Which I am pretty sure anyone who has ever seen a Bama game the last 2 years has watched Trent Run. Also it is possible that S. Williams could have watched some tape on Bama the last 2 seasons. Nah that would not be the case cause we do not even play similar opponents…

Can’t believe a positive comment from a UGA player is getting kicked back in his face by posters….sorry, that was a dumb thing say. It is 100% guaranteed some will do that every single time. Because he is excited, enthusiastic, and uses hyperbole? Observers usually attempt to describe a style by comparing it to another player that everyone is familiar with, who also wore the # 3.
We all have to rely on comments and reports from practices because we cannot see for ourselves. I am taking SW’s remarks and thinking, this freshman seems capable of making an immediate contribution, and that makes me feel upbeat. I am not expecting TG to contend for the Heisman in 2012, and will not be let down if he doesn’t. I just want a hard working, in shape, balls out kid that can tote the mail, pick up a blitz, not spend the early morning hours in the Clarke County booking room, and not raise his hand to come out every 5th play.
We have all heard how these two NC running backs showed up wanting to be Dawgs, let’s go with that. Guess we would feel better if it were something negative.

That seems to be the case these days. I guess I’ll be labeled a Disney Dawg because I’m, you know, actually excited that college football is near.

The lack of injuries tells me that Joe T and crew have addressed and corrected recent problems of laziness, entitlement and poor diet. That, more than anything that Todd Gurley does in practice, makes me happy.
Mental toughness and conditioning win close games. It appears Georgia is trending up in those often overlooked categories.
I remain cautiously optimistic.

What…there is not a group of 12-13 guys all with hamstring tweaks…
That was always so annoying, having multiple starters consistently have hammys in the preseason.

Pull a hammy some times. Those guys were more annoyed than you were, trust me.

Way back in the decade of the 90’s Disney Dogs were Beans and Bashers were, well, Bashers. Same stuff different decade.

+ 1. I’m sure Shawn’s watched plenty of games on TV, and wouldn’t be surprised if these guys were all glued to espn and nfl channels during the hype up to the nfl draft. Seems like I’ve seen Richardson run about a thousand times, and I’ve never played against him or attended one of his games at bama. I’ll accept his comment that Gurley has some talent.

Sorry folks, I have watched a good bit of tape on Gurley, I am afraid he is just another big, stiff back who may have a hard time learning the plays.
Dammit I can dream, can’t I????

You’ll know he’s gone over the top when he compares Gurly to Shawn Williams. And, for the record, I love me some Shawn Williams almost as much as I love me some Jarvis Jones.

Gurley may not be as thick as Richardson, or as strong. But he’s faster, has more agility, better vision, better moves, better cuts, and more burst and explosion.

There will never be another Herschel. He is beyond comparison and was a one-in-a-billion phenomina. The football equivalent of Einstein. In other words, he was a damn good dawg.

I would imagine that the team watched tapes of Bama. If LSU had stubbed a toe late in the season the Dawgs could have played the Tide in the SECCG.

I read this to say that Gurley has no running lanes because our OL sucks. Nevertheless, it’s good for him to get used to making that first juke behind the line. KM’s greatest ability – even more than all the leaping and juking and whatnot downfield – was his ability to turn a two yard loss into a two yard gain.

I’d much rather be hearing the happy talk about a freshman running back out of everyone than the rumors last year about the freshman running back having to have the upper classmen drag him out for summer workouts.
