UPitt has not been truly relevant since Bull-snip Jackie Sherrill took the reins from Highball Johnnie. The Panthers have not lost fewer than 3 games in a season since ’81. Sadly, this will probably signal to Fast Jimmy Franklin of the Pa. Cow College of Ped State that the western Pennsylvania region is even more prime for recruiting raids.

Dabo is dead-on with his idea. We have had this discussion before but seriously, why not? Having an exhibition games with a nearby school at the end of spring practice period would put some pep in the practices and, I think, increase focus. Make it mandatory to play no more than one half with 1s versus 1s. All ticket revenue to local based charities, rotate home and home venues. UGA could play FSU, UNC, NC ST., Wake, and Clemson (in years where there is no scheduled game) and be within reasonable driving distance for a large portion of each fan base.

I actually bumped into Dabo at the Greenville airport right after he came out and said that, I was standing at the baggage claim and just randomly he walks up and stands next to me to wait for his bags, was flying back from a quick vacation with his family in Florida, had 2 of his sons with him (I assume his wife and other son had gone to get the car, didn’t see them). I briefly introduced myself and told him I was a UGA fan but that his idea was a great one. He said he was dead serious and would love to put it together if the opportunity ever arose. He was actually one of the most down-home people I’ve ever talked to, we just stood there and chatted for probably 3 or 4 minutes, then a group of young guys who were all obviously Clemson fans noticed him and came over, so I just kinda wandered off. I know he gets mocked a lot as a coach, but I was impressed with how genuine and easy to talk to he was, and you could tell that he wasn’t just throwing out the spring game thing as a random idea, he really wished it was something we could do. I can see why he would do well on the recruiting trail, like I said until some other people noticed him and came over, we were just chatting away, he has that knack to make you feel totally at ease.

I am a double Dawg (ABJ ’92, MMC ’94) who worked at Clemson from 2003 to 2011. Watched Dabo ascend to the HC spot and at first thought he was just an on-the-cheap caretaker they hired after Bowden until they could get a REAL coach in there. And I think that was the original plan. But he won. And the guy, from all I ever saw, is what he appears to be, and that’s a good thing. He is a genuinely good dude, a Mark Richt-caliber good dude. And it pains me to say that, because I want us to crush his team so damn bad I can’t stand it.
