Spring, when a man’s heart turns to Dawg Porn

Oh, God, oh, God, oh, God

Dime packages: Defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt is following through on his pre-spring statement that he’ll use more dime packages, which was basically absent in last year’s Georgia’s defense. What’s interesting is how it’s being incorporated right now.

Damian Swann, the senior cornerback, is playing inside at what the team calls the “Money” spot in the dime. It’s basically an inside linebacker spot.

“It’s like playing the star (position),” Swann said after practice. “It’s just on the other side. I mean you’re pretty much doing the same thing you probably would do if you were playing the star. And I actually played a little bit of that my freshman year when we played dime against South Carolina here. I enjoyed that. It’s just another opportunity for me to make plays, doing something else.”

Ramik Wilson and Amarlo Herrera, the two starting inside linebackers in the base defense, are alternating as the lone inside linebacker on the dime package.

They may actually try to have someone on the field who can cover an inside crossing route on obvious passing downs?  Jeremy Pruitt, I think I love you.

  1. Didn’t Swann move to a similar (or star) position last fall when we had injuries/suspensions?

    Dammit JH-C. Just. Dammit.

Ok now that’s definitely something to be excited about. And I’m guessing Wilson/Herrera won’t mind having a breather every now and then either.

Exactly. Wilson-Herrera bashing remains the signature sport of some of the most ignorant in our fan base. They gamely withstood a grueling season at the most physically demanding position on the field in the most physical conference in the nation without substitution – even in blowout games – under the tutelage of who was universally derided as a grossly underperforming DC. There’s good reason to think that we don’t yet know what Grantham’s charges can do under a real coach. Judging by practice reports, Pruitt didn’t get the memo that Langley sucks as well.

      • Amen on the bashing. They tend to forgot that possibly game saving tackle on the goal line against Sakarlina. Let’s face it Davis is a beast and Herrera took it to him.

I can only speak for myself, and I’m not sure what “Wilson-Herrera bashing” is. I hope you don’t think it’s honestly pointing out weaknesses in their game, such as lack of cover skills, poor tackling from time to time, being late here and there, and so on. Because those things are a matter of record. The film doesn’t lie.

It IS only fair to point out that they didn’t get spelled as they should. No doubt they played some tired snaps. Further, their performance last year is not a permanent statement of their talent or their Georgia career. Now that there are no hindrances holding them back, both are free to develop and show what they really can do.

I, for one, am looking forward to the improvement.

I believe that yesterday was the first full practice the media got to see so it seems like they had a little bit of a build up as well.

    glad they got their release.
