Yeah, Mark Richt was such a maroon for suggesting that to Cam Newton… oh, wait.
“And I was smart enough to say, ‘If you can’t make it at quarterback, you could be a heck of a tight end…’”

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
Richt still gets my vote as the best HC the Dawgs have had in my lifetime.
Spurrier still gets my vote as the best HC the SEC has had in my lifetime,
My vote means nothing & I will not debate what I think or believe. Go Dawgs.

Interesting trivia question about you, Fran. What did you accomplish on your last play as a Georgia football player?

SOS & MR are both old school coaches, as is NS. Hard for them to conceptualize scam’s future skill set. A miss many had with him.

So Spurrier said tight end would have been a backup position choice for Cam if he failed at QB. Is that right? And then he lauds Cam at QB and says he is a prototype for the QB of the future. I guess I don’t see any issue here. Who can say, but I bet Cam would have been a great QB under Spurrier. Spurrier changed his offensive philosophy completely at SC; his running QB (Shaw, I believe) is currently in the pros. Cam would probably have supplanted him.

I think Tebow would make a heck of a tight end. After he said he’d do anything for the team, I figured that was his ultimate fate. Guess I was wrong.

Never understood why Richt has got flak for this. He’s always run a different offense and he clearly knew that Grayson Lambert was waiting in the wings.

I know you were being sarcastic, but my conclusion was he wante nothing to do with Cecil Newton and was not going to pay a dime for Cam. When Cam became a star at Auburn in early 2010, when Richt was still secure, he got questions about why he did not recruit a Georgia kid. Richt did not want to explain about the baggage and gave some off the cuff misdirection comment which now gets thrown at him.
It would have been out of character for Richt to attack the family’s integrity in public.
Just my inferences. Maybe I am wrong, maybe I am right. We will never know.

Doesn’t matter. Richt couldn’t afford him at TE or QB.
