Wow. Quality drive-by glossing over you got there, John.

By the same token, it is unclear whether Butch can beat anyone in the SEC on a consistent basis besides the also-rand, have-nots, and never-weres.

Tennessee is the chic pick this year. Kind of like Houston Nutt’s Ole Miss team a number of years ago or Petrino’s Arky team his last full year there. Lots of returning starters, all they have to do is actually accomplish something on the field.

Mark it down, if Butch doesnt win the East this year, he will be looking for work this winter.

Butch and Gus, both primed for epic failures this year.

Gotta love how Kirby Smart as an “unknown quantity” is viewed as a negative despite his coaching background and recruiting prowess while all the UT attrition next year is easily forgiven because “the Vols’ depth chart COULD remain formidable.” Very convincing argument there.

Summary- we’re losing our playmakers and have a recruiting class made up of 3 stars on the way and haven’t been to the SECCG since the Bush administration, but this our league now!

You hit my review of the article. And whatever they are smoking, it has more than short-term memory loss; it has the marks of an hallucinogen mixed with total memory loss of a year.

  8. If Kirby plans a game to win and not to lose, those Orangetans will lose, LOL.

  9. There are many things you can call USA Today writers, but “journalist” is not often one of them. While he’s a stringer for The Tennessian, he fits right in with their “op-ed” style of reporting. At least we know Kool-aide is available in orange.

Agree. I read USA Today occasionally when I go to a nearby chik-fil-a. If they want to trash or build up someone or something, you’ll see nearly identical columns from different reporters in news, op-ed and business sections. Sometimes it appears the entire paper is written by ‘think tanks’ – with a very heavy slant on what the 0.1% wants us to believe.

I always love when someone says that the backups are better than the starters.

    always good for a chuckle.

That’s some quality writing there…they haven’t won the East in 10 years so inevitably there might not be anyone to challenge them for that title over the next 3.

Not to mention that Booch’s class in 2016 was 14th…good for 6th in the SEC…the class for 2017 already has 23 verbal commits and only three 4-star players (and zero 5)…for comparison’s sake, UGA has 14 verbal commits so far for 2017 with two being 5 and 10 being 4*. Georgia has almost as many blue chippers in the 2017 class alone as Tennessee has lined up for 2016 and 2017.

But yeah…I can totally see why you would be pegging UT to be a dynasty.

My version…this is a now or never moment for Booch. While all of the Generation X and Boomer media still fawn over the Urnge, kids have little to no recollection of Tennessee as a national power. Honestly, today’s high school recruits would genuinely believe that South Carolina is a better program that Tennessee.

‘… consensus favorite to win…..’ If I recall, that’s what was written about G.A. Custer when he started his season in June 140 yrs ago.

Watched the UT Oklahoma replay yesterday. You get Dobbs in throwing situations, more times than not he cannot complete a pass. They are dreaming about ruling the east for years. There coach is alittle suspect in my book.

Has any team that has only had one signature win, where that win was against a team that gacked up a 21 point lead in a brain-fart of biblical proportions, ever been predicted to be go good? I understand that they had some close losses but damn. They had a winning in-conference record, 5-3, for the first time since 2007 and finished 3rd in the division last year… now they want to claim a dynasty? WTF, I hate football punditry now.

The season is going to be rigged. Everyone is saying so. I hear it from so many people. We should win so many games, but it’s rigged. Sad.

USA Today is just a small part of the conspiracy against us. The conspiracy against us is YUGE!!!

Nobody has any season tickets to turn in. 3 1/2 weeks before the first game and we still don’t have the tickets we bought 5 months ago. And we won’t be getting them for another week or so.

Interesting. I got an email saying they would be mailed by the 15th (next Mon). I figured that meant they might arrive this coming weekend at the earliest. I guess I’ll keep an eye out over the next few days.

It really doesn’t matter though. Either way we’re now less than a month before the first game and people don’t have their tickets. And I’m pretty tired of the usual excuse of “this is the way we’ve always done it”. Of course, I’m pretty tired of their approach (or lackthereof) to fan satisfaction in general. Each year I get closer and closer to quitting the donations/season tickets thing.

          Got mine today too.
You’ll be happy to know that items at the concession stands will be “rounded off to the dollar” , and they will no longer be offering free refills on beverages and popcorn. What you want to bet about the number of items were rounded down v rounded up ? Gotta get that reserve fund back up.

this reminds me of all the predictions a few years ago that “John Brantley was the second best QB in the SEC last year” as Tebow’s backup. Anyone remember how that worked out for the Gators? I guess if all UT’s maybes turn out to be stars, and everyone else’s maybes turn out to be duds, there is a slim chance they could win the East this year. If I was a hillbilly, I wouldn’t be buying non refundable air fare to the semifinal playoff sites just yet, though.
