Brent Musberger and Jesse Palmer are on suicide watch now that Kentucky lost.

Naw, Musberger is too busy watching Bama

I about choked on my food when Musberger referred to our recently named starting DB Deandre Baker as “one of the best cornerbacks in the country”. He may turn out to be one someday, but it maybe a little premature to use that description yet. Either way, palmer and musberger absolutely suck as announcers.

Palmer has gotten better, but my wife and I are pretty sure Musberger is drunk.

I think Palmer has gotten better, too. It seems like a lot better. But then I think that he just seems better because Musberger is in the booth with him, and he makes Palmer seem better by comparison. Musberger didn’t use to be as bad as he is now.
LikeLike
He has gotten MUCH better frankly (as much as I hate to give the Damn Gator credit) and poor Brent is simply old (jeez, I still remember him doing the 1975 NBA Finals!), but now kind of fun to watch because you can see the simple joy he takes in the game whether its a big game or a medium one like what he calls now. He doesn’t need the money obviously. They’ve actually turned into a decent team IMO. The seem happy to be there, I kind of like that!

I felt Palmer did a great job. He was objective and said a lot of nice and even insightful things about Georgia. He seemed embarrassed by Musberger, who (to Russ’ point) DID seem to be sauced. They even made fun of him at the SEC Round Up show, saying he was announcing two football games and a horse-race all at the same time.
I never cared for the guy, as he always seemed to be faking his knowledge of the game and teams..but I kind of felt sorry for him last night. I ‘spect he’s about through as an announcer.

By the middle of the 2nd quarter, I’d had enough and started listening to the UGA radio broadcast on my phone so I could sync it up with the TV. Musberger is insufferable. I can handle Palmer, but Musberger is just too much.

Why, oh kind poster would you say that?
Because he kept thinking he was calling the Bama v LSU game?
Because of his strange behavior on the ‘booth’ tour?
Because of his strange behavior during Kentucky’s 3rd and goal timeout at the end of the game?
Surely not.
On another note, did anyone else note that Kentucky has a linebacker #51 from Youngstown, OH, named ‘Courtney Love’ ? Was this, like, ‘A Boy Named Sue’ sort of thing?
Also, did anyone else note that the refs called for a 30 second timeout near the end of the game, and the $ECNetwork showed 7 commercials and a promo? Even though most of them were 15 seconds, when your out takes 10 seconds, you only have time for 1 15-second commercial. Sigh.
3:30 game against the Barn. Go Dawgs! Stafford finally came into his own and quit looking like a freshman in the second half of the Auburn game–maybe it will happen again.

True, we were tired and getting whipped up front at that point. Also needed to remind them of what a difference 3 versus 7 was at that point given the time left and response needed. Situational awareness for the W.

PWG was in full effect. The non-calls on KY’s last TD…the review of a review…and a sideline penalty (vs a warning. Does anyone have any info on THAT deal? please share) all go into the PWG file, if there is one. If there’s not, there should be.
LikeLike
KY had a warning earlier, but not UGA to my knowledge. And the tackle staring is block prior to the breaking of the huddle on that TD run was an incredible miss by the refs.
And NEVER have a seen a second look at a play like that fumble. Incredible. Like the call a couple years back where we “scared” the offensive lineman and WE were called for it or the 4th down at Cola chain link gift, etc. etc. (2013 Vandy PF Targeting (both) or AJ Green LSU PF).
We see it all as a UGA fan!!

Yeah. When the guy calling the game in Palmer is doing a better job at pointing out calls than the refs it’s pretty sad.

He was the best kicker this spring, and he was the best kicker at the beginning of this season. Never understood that decision at all, maybe Beamer was holding/wearing Rodrigo’s glasses when he watched the competition. Hamm almost took out a goal line pylon in the spring game, and again in one of our first two games. Appreciate the effort but this was a no-brainer that we blew, for like 4-5 ftigging games. There is missing a FG on a well kicked ball, and there is…not even in the competition. Glad they go it right an dhope his confidence stars high.

Observation from the ten yard line, no too far up. We still suck and Rodrigo is the best thing about this team, at least tonight. And does anybody else wonder if Kirby had money on that game? Going for two covered the -2.5 line. Broke my heart. And we handed FU the East on a silver platter. That’s a bittersweet win.
Oh, and the “new” Commonwealth Stadium is the finest I’ve seen in the SEC. No lines, no waiting at plenty of concession stands. Clean restrooms with easy in and out. Easy to find seating with benchbacks. Their scoreboard/sound system could use some help, though.

Going for two was the obvious call. Being ahead by 1 or by 2 means the same thing, so of course you go for two to put the lead at 3.

Absolutely, one point is irrelevant at that time, only two could have any impact on the final score. No brainer call, great execution.
Lexington is definitely one of the best road trips during football season. Great people, good dining options, and good interaction with their fan base. Improving Commonwealth wasn’t necessary to make it a great experience but all the better. Just hope they don’t start taking this football thing too seriously, they might expect an occasional loss from us.

The kid was clutch … both the kicker and the QB. Eason’s drive at the end of the game was beautifully executed. I have to give Chaney credit when I’ve given him hell all year long. He called a pretty good game last night. Please stay in the box for the rest of the season. Blankenship should have been kicking field goals from game 1. Defense was solid for most of the game again. Special teams … ugh!

Really, the special teams were good. Except Mackenzie’s fumble. Those back-to-back plays where he gave up the first down and muffed the punt were brutal at a time when Georgia was mostly controlling the game.

It was a nice road win in a place that’s not easy for us. I was pleased with the way the team didn’t quit and kept countering Kentucky scores with our own and that last drive was beautiful. Chaney called a good game and made the questionable KY defense pay.

I agree with all but the the Chaney observation. First, really glad we got him up top where he could better see the opportunities and how the defense reacted to formations, personnel, etc. But dang, is it illegal to throw a forward pass in 1st down? We went about 2 quarters, or more, running until they almost put 11 in the box.
Tonight we faced a defense that was not stout against the run or the pass so we had tons of options yet we continued to follow our usual pattern…the only thing different was KY isn’t a very good defense so we had more success. Our total yardage was very good due to the last drive and a 50 yard pass play with a perfect pass/catch. As with Vandy, we continued to drive the field and settle for FGs, it is a formula for disaster; last night it happened to go our way because they finally settled for a FG. BTW, Eason is getting pretty good at driving the field at the end of games. Might want to play off that more often because that is what he did in HS all game long and he is obviously more comfortable with that HUNH, shotgun approach.
LikeLike
Mac is spot on. Sure, there were a number of 1st downs where the run play worked pretty well thanks to UK being bad against the run. But we ran the ball nearly every first down. When we didn’t run it on first down, we had success.
I thought Chaney was supposed to be good at putting players in systems where they can succeed rather than simply having a “system.” It’s clear Eason plays better out of the shotgun, so why not use it?

I went to Sprayberry, where Rodrigo’s father was (maybe still is) a teacher. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Ken, the father, had inch-thick, black framed glasses, wore 70s shirts and ties (though it was the early to mid-80s), and had a lot of visible chest hair. All of this gave him a reputation as an eccentric, not that it took much to be considered unusual at that school at that time.

This was a win we all sorely needed…and the legend of Rodrigo, a true freshman (?) has sprouted…..”inch thick glasses” ? Interviewed after the game by a beauty queen and he keeps his helmet on? We needed something like this, and the Kevin Butler part of the story just makes it better. Now if we can just get Hines Ward to enroll as a student assistant.

So, we finally play in a stadium that has an elevator that goes up to the box so Chaney can manage to get his fat rear up there, actually see the field and call the plays. I say stop the construction on the IPF immediately so we can put an elevator in at Sanford. Chaney will then be able to get up in the box to call the plays for the remainder of our games. And next year upgrade it to an express elevator.

This isn’t baseball. He isn’t wild thing. He’s Jack from The Best of Times. Seriously, though…he’s become one of my favorite Dawgs. Yes, mostly because of how he won the game but also how he’s so nerdy that he wore his helmet and glasses in the interview. Kid probably thought he was the last they’d interview. Whatever the nickname he’s cold as ice. Just a couple games ago I would have assumed we would lose when a game came to a FG. He’s turned out to be a bright star in a season of cloudiness.
As poorly coached as we’ve seemed to be at times this team scraps til the end and has serious heart. They’ve been a some real battles…several games decided on the last play. I’ve been super hard on this staff but one thing I really like is how most of our best talent is really young and is getting to play a lot. The DL has some serious studs and the D, as a whole, is becoming really salty. If the O can get out of its own way and we can somehow cut down on mistakes we may be game Saturday. I am starting to see a little evidence of what Kirby is trying to instill, especially on D.
Eason! Eason…yes he’s a pretty boy QB but I really like his calm and toughness and the kid has done a lot this season to build trust with this team. He’s been integral to the close games this year. Yes, he really needs help on his touch passes but he seems to have the brain and heart of a championship QB.
