The “SEC East really sucks” meme is approaching critical mass. Bill Connelly thinks the likely mismatch in the SECCG is grounds for blowing up conference divisional play altogether (eh,what does a Missouri carpetbagger* know about the SEC, anyway?).
* That’s a joke, son.
Also, I think Andy Staples is setting up the case to blame Georgia if the Dawgs manage to beat Auburn tomorrow and set in motion a chain of events that leads to Boom making an appearance in the championship game as the result of a multi-team 4-4 divisional logjam. And you didn’t believe Kirby Smart would have a major impact on the East in his maiden season.
2016 can’t end soon enough.
I do not care if SC goes to SEC Championship, beat the hell out of Auburn and GT and salvage this season.

Honestly, I’m rooting for the ‘Cats. What would be more SEC East than to send Kentucky to the championship game?

All I want for Christmas is an SEC with no divisions. That 3 permanent rivals plan Connely references would be absolutely amazing.

I like Connelly’s plan. If everybody is playing everybody else more often, the conference will get stronger top to bottom IMHO.

Most of the crazier scenario’s involve Tennessee losing a minimum of 2/3 to UK, Vandy, & Mizzou, some involve them losing all three. While that’s unlikely, I guess it’s possible.
But that’s not where I’m heading. I can’t help but think a 5 loss UT team is the cause that introduces the effect of seeing Booch exit stage left. I don’t want that. I want him hanging around due to his overratedness.

South Carolina won’t beat Florida, so it will be moot whether Georgia wins tomorrow or not.

South Carolina won’t beat UT either….wait…just saying, you never know.

No, you never KNOW, but Florida will be able to run the ball on South Carolina. That will make all the difference.

Also, it’s a good thing people didn’t overreact to everything in the from ’95 to 2002 when three-loss West teams were making the championship game about half the time.

Exactly my thoughts … the West absolutely sucked for most of the 90s.

The East basically dominated the SECCG until the latter 2000s. FU won it most of the time with Georgia winning 2 times and UT a time or two. LSU under Saban and Auburn under Tuberville are the only 2 SEC West teams I remember winning the SECCG until Saban arrived in Tuscaloosa.

You forgot about Mike Dubose somehow managing to win the SEC in ’98?

Yeah, I forgot about that one–an exception to the rule.

In defense of the recent East, the only truly mediocre team to make the title game during the West’s 7-year streak was South Carolina in ’10. You could maybe argue that Georgia in 2011 and Florida in 2015 were mediocre, but they were both 10-2. This year, obviously, is a different story.

That Georgia team in 2011 wasn’t mediocre. We lost to what was a top 5 Boise State team, gave away the USCe game with turnovers and special teams, got hammered by the best team in the country in the SECCG, and played not to lose vs. Michigan State. It was a pretty solid team …

Everyone looks at that final score and thinks it wasn’t competitive but we dominated the first half, shutting their offense totally while we dropped 2 TD passes, 11 offensive yards I believe is all they managed. They had a questionable ST score just before the half to wake them up, Murray fumbled deep in our territory on the 2nd half opening drive, and they scored a garbage TD at the end when we went for it on 4th down around our own 20 when everyone would have normally punted it away.
Don’t get me wrong, LSU was the better team but I have never seen an LSU crowd that quiet in any stadium in America, we were very competitive in that game. But folks look at the headline and don’t read the story.

That’s very true. If we hit a couple of plays in that 1st half, who knows what happens? That defense was dominant in those first 30 minutes.

I was at the game. Yes, if they catch those passes, it may have given them enough momentum to get the upset. But they didn’t, and LSU did whatever they wanted in the second half while shutting Georgia down completely. It wasn’t competitive at all after halftime.

The decision to admit Missouri and to put them in the East was absolutely stupid. Then again, looking back on it, the league probably shouldn’t have admitted TAMU either. All of this was a Mike $live panic attack about the B1G going to 14.

Simple, the SEC wanted Texas A&M. they couldn’t accept only one team since there are two divisions. So, Mizzou got in with A&M

They should have taken 2 Texas teams and moved Bama and Auburn into the East.

Sad commentary that even The Senator has to explain his jokes in print lest a viral meme get started.
Like many I don’t gas* who wins the East, Bama will crush them all. But recent history isn’t a reason to make wholesale changes. Plus, as has been noted many times, they only care about the money anyway.
*That’s an acronym, son. 😉
