Moar today, in Baylor, a continuing series

Hands down, this is the greatest thing Bob Bowlsby has ever and will ever utter:

Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby, meanwhile, didn’t pull punches Friday while speaking to ESPN during an appearance at a regularly scheduled conference board meeting in Dallas.

“I think everybody’s pretty much in the barrel, but I don’t know if anybody knows where the bottom of the barrel is,” Bowlsby said of Baylor.

It’s kind of like a prequel to the Rule of Holes — before you stop digging, you have to recognize you’ve hit the bottom.

Is ” the bottom of the barrel” a metaphor or euphemism?

I think it’s more like the old joke:

This logger gets assigned to a remote lumber camp. After some time goes by, there’s one thing the guy wants that he can’t find in the camp–sex. He mentions to his best friend there and the friend smiles and says, “You’re not the first one who misses that! Come behind Cabin Six on Saturday night and I’ll show you something”.

The guy shows up, nervous but curious, that Saturday to see his friend standing beside a barrel, zipping up his fly. The friend smiles at him and says, “OK, just stick your cock in the barrel and you’ll be happy. Go ahead, try it.” The friend walks away and after some internal debate, the guy unzips, sticks himself in the barrel, and gets the best blow job he’s ever had.

Next Saturday, the same thing happens. A steady stream of guys makes their way to behind Cabin Six and the new guy gets into the routine.

A couple of weeks later, the guy gets the courage to thank his friend for the tip. His friend smiles and says, “Isn’t it great? You can visit every weekend. Oh, except for three weeks from now.”

    “Why not?”

“Because that’s your turn in the barrel.”

If you think the NCAA has been dragging Ole Miss over the coals slowly, wait until you see how this plays out. The federal government is involved. Two people employed in the Title IX office have already filed official complaints citing intimidation by the school. They have no idea the depths of hell into which they are descending.

I’m so glad that we’re not Baylor. I know we joke a lot about The Georgia Way, but one aspect of it is that ever since the Jan Kemp era we’ve been a little more careful about the gray areas than some other programs. Not to say a Baylor situation or a Sandusky situation, or an Ole Miss situation couldn’t happen to us, but I really hope it’s less likely.
