Here’s a song that shuffled up on my iPod this weekend — one of those tunes when you haven’t heard it in a while, you wonder why you’ve ignored it — from Spoon’s brilliant Gimme Fiction, “I Summon You”.
There’s something about the way the percussive acoustic guitar work drives the song that really appeals to me.
By the way, if you’re interested, GF is a great album, one without a single weak cut on it.
Love this album. I wear it out for a few weeks about once a year, then have to put it aside for a while.

I’m a big fan of this album myself, although I I’m not sure I like it better than Girls Can Tell (Take a Walk is my favorite Spoon song although I Summon You is close).

Agreed – Girls Can Tell is damn good, too.

Love the palate cleansers. Listened to the clip, and I thought “Huh, that sounds just like that Underdog song.”
Never knew who’s it was. Thanks Bluto.

Spoon was ahead of its time. Great album.

Austin’s finest. Gimme Fiction, Girls Can Tell and Kill the Moonlight are all classics.
If you get a chance, check out Sweet Spirit. Mike McCartney (Spoon’s longtime producer) produced them and Britt Daniel sings on a track. They share a lead singer and guitarist with the punkier A Giant Dog. Both are two of the best things coming out of Austin right now.
