He could’a been a contenduh.

This has potential.

I’m totally convinced that, for years, Tuberville was the anonymous coach who would take digs at his SEC peers in those annual pieces in Athlon.  He’s got nothing to lose now, so, boy, would I love to hear him dish it out on television.

Instead, all we’ll probably get is whining about Auburn’s 2004 season.

Meh, I’d much rather hear Spurrier’s zingers, even though most of them would be for us. Give him a 6-pack of Coors Lite and enjoy the fun.

Yes, SOS would be a home run choice; 12 pack would be apropos. Could you imagine him after about 8?

Let him smoke, let him drink. Who cares? Just make him the color guy on the SEC Network game of the week; i.e. always bad teams worthy of plenty of Spurrier cut downs.

Here in Alabama, I’ve heard rumblings that he’s positioning himself for a run at AD at Auburn when Jacobs is shown the door. If that’s the case, he’d be smart to be at least a little diplomatic.

Truth is stranger than fiction on the Plains.

ESPN must be getting pretty desperate.

He was directly quoted as saying that he hoped DJ Shockley would get in the game because it would mean a turnover or two. Not sure what year it was, but I think it was the 4th and 19 game for the East title. Could have been 2004 though.

That solidified what an ass he is for me. Of course only auburn could auburn so much that I felt sorry for the guy. They sneak around and try to offer his job to someone else and then after beating bama 6 years in a row they do it again?

Auburn sux and I like riding in my truck.

I remember him years ago (early 00’s) running up the score on Jackie Sherrill/MSU. They hated each other for some reason and Tubs kept going for 2, throwing bombs, etc even though they led by 20+.

My favorite Tubs story involves his time at Ttech. He hosted 7-8 recruits and took them out the dinner, then his phone rang…his agent called saying Cincinnati had offered him the job that he was interested in. So he casually excused himself from the table without saying why…and simply left and totally hung the recruits out to dry, as they never saw it heard from him again.

Suffice to say he’s always been known as a bit of a prick.

  7. I would have loved to have seen Pete Carroll, Matt Leinert and Reggie Bush beat the living snot out of Auburn that year.

Even the Auburn side of the family thinks he is a jerk but I’d be pulling for Auburn on that one. Can’t stand ND, Ohio St, USC or Texas.

      • I don’t them either, but no way would I pull for Auburn in anything.

The way UGA gets hosed I wanted any SEC champion to win the national title when it was possible. I could see UGA on the outside looking just like Auburn ’04 especially back then. If Shock hadn’t been, and UGA finished running the table. They would be Sugar Bowl bound without a Crystal Ball on the line.

I pulled for Florida against Ohio St. and they are the 1 rival I completely loath. As much I dislike them I want the SEC to look good. If 1 Tenn or UGA game swung the other way in ’07, UGA plays for all the marbles because of the strength of the SEC.

True story about that game…my good friend was on USC’s coaching staff then. USC knew going in to that game knowing which AU O plays were run or pass based on tip offs given by the OL. They had bets in the locker room before hand as to whether they should shut them out..sure enough they won something like 22-0.

My first thoughts are of TT saying that Mark Richt was going to find out that you have to be able to run the ball in the SEC. Only Mr. Conventional Wisdom could have made a more obvious point. But the incident 3rdandG recalled (just above), the one where he left recruits sitting in a restaurant when he bailed on TxTec is just awful..

He also lied to the University of Mississippi when there was absolutely no reason. He had already accepted the Auburn job according to people I know there who were in a position to know. But over in Oxford he was telling everybody for more than a month there was no truth to the rumor.

He made a pile of money when Auburn violated his contract.

Anybody who thinks any institution in the SEC (or any college for that matter) is a paragon of integrity is uninformed.

I was at Ole Miss for the Auburn game during his last season. He said he’d leave Ole Miss in pine box, and they were saying Ole Miss would finish it. They did.

Jackie Sherrill is an even bigger jerk than Tuberville. He was the SOB that got UGA on probation back in the 80’s.
