    The Big Twit and the GOP have widened a schism between Christians that is political while Freeze has created his share of that schism in college and HS sports, aided by influence peddling that satisfies the righteousness of most fans.

    Coach Mark Richt seems to stand alone in his profession as a serious man of his God. So many coaches and politicians use their religion in a self-aggrandizing way that is hypocritical to their professed religion and irksome to most of us that we begin to question what anyone’s belief is deep down. They obviously don’t believe concerning the Old Testament’s God of Vengeance nor the Second Coming of the New Testament.

    Joe Gibbs, Chan Gailey, Bobby Bowden, Tony Dungee….all come to mind as good (never..not anyone perfect) football coaches. There are others. The problem is when one is as outspoken as Freeze, he makes himself a huge target when his hypocrisy is exposed. Everyone is tempted to join in the beating. That’s OK…maybe the way is should be. The old adage that you can do a thousand things right and few will notice, but screw up one time and everyone will, is true. Not that Freeze just “screwed up”..He was living a double life and knew it and hid it. As a Chrisitan myself, I am saddened by his actions..but I realize that we all are vulnerable. When a famous person is particularly outspoken about his faith, and uses it for self gain and worldly success, he’s setting himself up.
    Of the men mentioned in my first sentence, only CMR, Bowden and Dungee are very vocal (as far as I know). The have backed it up by living good lives and giving God the credit for their success
    It’s been said that the “Straight and narrow path” that Jesus spoke of, is much more worn on the edges than in the middle. ( I can attest). But being a Christian is not about being pious, proud or successful. It’s about being a servant and loving others as you love yourself. Those men have lived that in their lives. Mother Theresa Is a wonderful example.
    Bottom line..we may think we’re going to be judged on what we’ve done, but our only hope is Grace, because we’re all imperfect.
