Prior to that was Georgia Southern in 2000, so only twice under Richt ’12 FAU and Ga. Southern ’15.

Granted being September and a 6:00 kick off ,majority of the game will not require lights.

Who controls the scheduling when we play the likes of App St and Sanford? I’m sure Greg is fighting like hell to get more noon starts. Don’t want the crowd to get too rowdy.

Who controls scheduling for any game? TV – does.
Looking at the weekend – UGA and Auburn are the least compelling games with Samford and Mercer as opponents.
UT at Florida has already been picked as the 3:30 CBS game.
The rest of the schedule has games of moderate to genuine interest:
CSU at Alabama (ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU or SECN prime time game?)
Ole Miss at California (possibly a ABC regional game or maybe candidate for late night Fox Network?)
LSU at Miss St. (probable ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU prime time game?)
Purdue at Missouri (this looks like a SECN early game to me)
Kentucky at South Carolina (might be a late afternoon on ESPN/ESPN2/SECN start?)
La-Lafayette at Texas A&M (SECN)
Kansas St at Vanderbilt (how is this game on Sat? – seems like a good Thursday night for SECN or ESPN/ESPN2)
I looked at the SEC schedule and I couldn’t find any SEC teams playing on a Thursday until November – this can’t be right can it?

How much say do the schools have in this?
Looking at 9/16, there is only one good SEC game (UT/UF) for the 3:30 slot and only 2 other SEC games (LSU/MSU, UK/SCU).
Everyone else plays cupcakes or also-Rams like Purdue and Cal.

Little skeptical here, Sanford didn’t have lights in 1966. Whatever it take to get night games early in the season I support it. Yes, TV controls the actual time but UGA was on record as preferring earlier games so we get more than those who put their foot down about it (Central Time Zone schools and Florida.) I believe it was Vince giving in to the South Georgia crowd. Just win baby, folks are much more agreeable when we get Ws.

Let me modify that, we had used temporary banks of lights very rarely before that huge Clemson opener in the early 80s, after which we installed permanent ones. Still hard to imagine we used temporary lighting for 3 consecutive home games when we couldn’t be on national TV but once a year in the 60s. But my mind is slipping more often these days so I will accept those who have better memories.

Georgia’s first three games in 66 were all on the road. Miss State in Jackson, VMI in Roanoke and Carolina in Columbia. I can remember an early 60s game under Johnny Griffith when we played Miss State at Grant Field.
In fact the Georgia-Florida game is the last survivor of what used to be common in the SEC. Other than LSU, Georgia Tech and Tennessee played their biggest games at “neutral” sites. All the big games for Miss State and Ole Miss were in Jackson. Ditto for Legion Field for Auburn and Bama. Georgia played Clemson and Carolina in Augusta and Auburn in Columbus quite often. On campus stadiums were smaller and towns were harder to get to. Until 68, Sanford Stadium was about 45K and Grant Field was almost 60K.
But 3 consecutive night games has certainly been the exception, especially under the current UGA administration. Maybe they feel they can hide a pathetic home schedule in the dark. 😉

Jackson was not “neutral”, it was where the railroad ran regular service to… Its the same reason Bama played games in Birmingham, rather than Tuscaloosa, and the same reason we played Virginia Tech in Roanoke (rather than Blacksburg) in ’66. It has nothing to do with them being “neutral” venues – that was where those teams played a majority of their home games…

Pretty sure that was a 3:30 kick-off that ended under the lights. I only remember that because we were kicked out of our dorms until after the game had started because of the holiday weekend.

I know I’ll hear older fans saying “they don’t like getting home at 2AM” but they also complained that noon games were hot.
People like to complain.
6:00 is great for going to a cupcake game, the heat is cooling off and you get out in time to watch some of the 7:30 and 8:00 kickoff classics.
ND at night? That is the beginning of legend.

Anything past 3:30pm is great, as it allows a full day of tailgating and a much better fan atmosphere regardless of who we are playing. UGA fans will probably be louder for Samford at 7:30pm than they’d ever be for Vandy at 12pm.

I smell a watered down black out a la ULM last year. How is UGA, with so much potential, so lame in everything we do? When ticket holders and fans bitch about lack of night games it’s because of the atmosphere of a night game vs auburn or tennessee. Use the cupcake games for the laid back noon games so parents and grandparents can take their kids/grandkids to the game without the drunks and hassle.
Please make some changes. Fiscal responsibility and sense of awareness are not mutually exclusive

Dude, noon games in early September are brutal. Also what’s wrong with doing a blackout? It would be great. If we actually want to use the black jersey’s from time to time without people saying “zomg, fake juice!” then we have to use them during games that aren’t “big” at first.

Im all for the blackout. Ive always said UGA should wear black in one game a year but should rotate between Auburn at home one year, at Georgia Tech the next , and in Jacksonville against UF in orange.
The September games are hot, that is a good point. However, a 7:30p game against Samford between the hedges is the equivalent of owning a fireworks stand and only selling snakes and sparklers.
