… not even close.
And all it would have taken to avoid the shitstorm was an apology.
Meanwhile, somewhere an NCAA investigator is sitting back, kicking off his shoes, pouring a cold one and waiting.

UPDATE: Moar.
It’s amazing how male hubris, combined with a fragile ego, can make you so irrationally prideful that you do unbelieable damage to yourself in the process. It really is amazing that refusing to offer a rather pointless apology, that really doesn’t mean a damn thing and requires little effort, is something your ego just won’t let you do.
I also find it pathetic that we haven’t heard a word from Freeze — not even a one sentence apology to the Ole Miss fan base on twitter — since his ouster. That alone speaks volumes to me in terms of his overall character.

When Freeze eventually speaks, I doubt it will move the needle much, if at all.

If I was an Mississippi State fan, I’d be a little worried about my in-state rivals trying to get some payback. I have no clue if they have a speck of dirty laundry in Starkville, but the unknown unknowns are always the things that kill you.

My memory is probably faulty, but I seem to remember that their refusal of old man Newton’s demands are what sent Cam Auburn’s way.

Never confirmed nor denied. It was often reported that Miss St. reported the violation to the NCAA in January 2010 but they didn’t
An ESPN.com story this week said Mississippi State told the SEC that two recruiters were told by Cecil Newton in phone conversations that he wanted money. In a written statement, Mississippi said it informed the SEC of concerns in January, then supplied more information to the SEC in July. But SEC associate commissioner Charles Bloom said Wednesday that Mississippi State did not report such phone conversations to the SEC in January or in July.

Right. It will be typical coach speak, but more in a legal sense that really says absolutely nothing of substance. My prediction is that Freeze will enter some sort of therapy for a short period, which will of course be publicly disclosed. He then will spend the next few years in a consultant capacity, while ocassionally remarking that he’s now closer to God, continues to pray and has exercised his demons. He finally will end up getting a HC gig at a mid major type program or low profile P5 school, where he will enjoy modest success.

I think he’s been exercising his demons for some time now. 😉

I think he will land in the NFL same as Shula and Dooley but basically yes that is the path. Who knows maybe Youngstown St will be in need of a new Head Coach.

God Bless legal discovery. That AD should be gone regardless, either for being part of it or for incompetence in governance due to the unbelievable ignorance of what has been going on under his nose for years.

Yup! The giant elephant in the room now is if the AD just now found out Freeze was a freak, how is it he did a “detailed investigation” into wrong-doing over the past year and found nothing?
He’s a dead man walking. He has to know that. If they don’t start making Freeze the patsy in all this, he’s the next to fall.

The good news is there will be plenty to keep us occupied until young men actually start to play football. The story will drag out much longer but I won’t be paying near as much attention once the season commences.

No one does offseason like the SEC.
Bjork is going to raze Ole Miss to the ground and salt the earth on which it stood.
Senator, you need to talk your friends in Blog High Places into an annual AD award, similar to the Fulmer Cup. Maybe that could puncture the bubble all these nitwits seem to live in.

Thomas Mars is a genius. Drop the dime on Freeze then a week later call for Bjorks phone records to see who he contacted to cover his butt. Brilliant.

Someone would have to be an idiot to not have a private phone for business not relating to their official duties. These folks are clueless.

See, I don’t think it was this at all — I see it as simple carlessness on Freeze’s part. When youre busy and are juggling two phones, after a while you get sloppy and start forgetting (or caring) which phone is what. I’ve seen many people do this in the professional world as well with their personal/work phones. Plus, at the time Freeze was riding high, so he thought he was bulletproof and nobody would ever catch or question him.

Agree with PTC. after reading a book about a reporter who interviewed some really bad folks, the use this day and age of burner phones, if you are doing something illegal, is a must. If not you really are not that smart. even trying to juggle phones, just make them all burner or get rid of the chips.

Now all that’s left for Houston Nutt to do is contract Harvey Updyke sow the Grove with salt. However, the NCAA will probably do that for him.

Now you know why people in high places get treated well and get big severance checks in exchange for signing non-disclosure and confidentiality agreements. Also, a good lesson not to piss on someone’s shoes.
I can only imagine how much more Mars and Robertson will turn up then the NCAA will/would have.

In fairness, what Mars has turned up so far isn’t an NCAA violation. What he further turns up likely will not be NCAA violations. Just embarrassing as hell.
