Don’t feel political or virus-y this morning, so instead what you get is the tweet I obsessed over the most this past week. It’s absolutely mesmerized me.
Maybe that says more about me than the clip, I dunno. But after I got through laughing, I had so many questions: how does somebody go to that much trouble? how does someone in a devil’s costume manage to stroll around on a golf course unchecked? who the hell filmed it? why go to the trouble of toting around a helium-filled balloon when there’s a handy pond to toss the ball into? why bother to chase a dude in a devil’s costume?
Pulling up with tweaked hammies is the perfect cherry on the sundae, too. All in ten seconds. I wonder what he told his wife when he got home that day.

Heres the thing. I’ve met people who believe it’s a hoax. And they REALLY believe it is. So, when you ask about all the tens of thousands of people dying all over the planet, they’ll admit the virus is real. It’s our response that’s a hoax. So, when you ask about the fact that virtually the entire world reacted exactly the same way they don’t have a clue how to answer. Sweden! Is most common. So when you ask what they actually understand about the Swedish response they have zero knowledge. When you point out that Sweden is now registering the highest death rates per capita in all of Europe they start calling you names. The truth hurts.

Ah, Derek, the explanation about the lack of rallies is simple: he has been paying people to attend, but now that there is a health risk, the price has gone up. 😉 He has to keep some $$ for in the fall, plus what’s the point? He tells millions each day that his performance has been beautiful; so beautiful you wouldn’t believe it. I agree with him on that – I don’t believe it.

Senator, I have to disagree with your take on the balloon. I think that added element makes the prank that mush better. The oddity of it is hilarious to me.
I wish I was this creative when I was a teenager. My buddies and I used to hide in the woods of a dog leg golf hole in my neighborhood with our remote control cars. After the tee shots were hit we would drive the cars out and use them to push the balls off the fairway. Our dumb asses thought it was pure comedy watching golfers look for their balls in disbelief that the tee shots weren’t in perfect position to reach the green in two. While what we did was funny to us, these guys are on a whole different level.

I live in a golf course community, and occasionally I’ll hear air horns from nearby teenagers messing around with the players. Drones also are fairly common too, and you’ll see them hovering over the fairway or greens screwing with the golfers.
With that said, I don’t feel all that badly for golfers, as many are clueless or simply aholes. We have a large, 75 yard buffer between our backyard and the clearly marked out of bounds edge of the fairway, which includes a line of large, 30 ft trees which act as a natural fence. Even still, we get golfers walking around our backyard looking for balls, along with the occasional golf cart tearing through our backyard to boot.

I’ve played golf all my life. But I still love messing with golfers, including blowing my horn when I drive by a course. Once, driving down I-75 passing a country course, I blew the horn on some guy’s backswing. At the next hole along the highway, another golfer was standing on the green giving me the double bird. LOL
Another time, I was putting on Gordon Morris GC next to Camp Creek Parkway (NOT a ritzy course or part of town). Just as we were about to putt, some guy yells out his car window “Hit that ball you rich sonofabitch!” I thought my partner and I were going to die laughing.
Golfers take themselves (and the game) waaaaaaaaaaaay too seriously.

The hacker putter-plumbing a 30 foot put for a snowman, which will win the hole cause the rest of the foursome is laying 8 after 30 minutes of hovering and lost ball looking, which he will miss so my group behind them can watch all the ball marking and plumb-bobbing one more agonizing time.
All the while praying for relief from the beverage cart because we are only 5 holes in and already out of beer ….

So, the Ingles (grocery store) in my neck of the woods doesn’t require a mask. The one down my mother-in-law’s way does (small town, western NC, rural county).
In a small town like that with a lot of old people who spent most (or all) of their lives there, it’s just protecting neighbors. I mean, if you’re the kind of person who will cut someone’s grass because they are spending all their time taking care of a sick husband, you’ve got no issue putting on a mask to hep the people you run into down at the grocery store. Because you probably run into them a lot. You know them personally.
No fussing, no harumphing.
Contrast that with the guy at my Ingles yesterday (much more populated area) who made a point of wearing his Trump hat but no mask, and who needed to borrow my discount card because he either forgot his or just doesn’t shop there that often – we’re all anonymous to him and might as well be the same faceless people he runs into online.
It’s anecdotal, but the people I know who are the most fervently anti-mask live alone or have a house partner (roommate or spouse) who is low risk. They’re just not connected to people with real risk profiles. So it’s easier to for them to step away from the virus as a public health issue and deal with it solely as a PR issue. Which has been the Senator’s observation about the varying approaches all along.
Everyone has a different line for themselves on precautions, and I respect that – as long as people show similar respect. Maybe a store owner has someone at home who they want to protect. Who knows?
If the mask is a deal-breaker for you, fine – shop somewhere else. That’s your freedom.

A healthy, asymptomatic person wearing a mask is mostly doing something just to be doing something. Unless it’s an N-95 mask (and worn properly) the effectiveness at preventing the spread of respiratory viruses is small.
The negative impact of pushing for masks is that it gives the false impression of everyone being sick, or contagious. That everyone should be worried. That shutting down or limiting businesses and activities for arbitrary time periods based on arbitrary guidelines and arbitrary metrics is reasonable. And that people who are healthy and asymptomatic are “selfish” if they don’t buy into the ‘muh Covid’ hysteria. And those people obviously deserve some sort of consequences for failing to buy in to the notion that our benevolent overlords know what’s best for us and we should just shut up and obey.
My personal view is that, if someone wants to wear a mask, fine. If a business owner is compromised and wants to exercise extreme caution buy requiring masks, fine. If it makes you feel better to do something, do it. But it shouldn’t make anyone feel better to force other people to do something that, at best, is marginally effective.

Ambulance took Mama to Piedmont/Athens Regional Sunday night for pneumonia. She’s almost 85. Tested negative for Covid-19. However, she was checked briefly into the quarantined ward before being placed on the appropriate floor. What was that all about? Fudging Chicom virus numbers for federal gooberment remittance?
Athens Regional has done an exceptional job keeping my Mom alive the last few years. No complaints save that odd exposure to a nasty floor. She’s on her way home now still feeling rough.

Mom is like many old widows whose main purpose in life is grandchildren. She’s weary of the quarantine and not spending time with her babies. Lonely days are beating her down. I see her a couple times a week and take protective measures.

My mom will be a young 90 on October 8th. Lord willing. I am sure I’ll never reach such a glorious age. From her point of view the solitary confinement of quarantine is morbid. She stays with her little sister that’ll be 87 on October 30th.
I used to get her out and ride her around. Not so anymore. The bad thing about golden age is you outlive all your friends. She does have one friend left from work and she just turned 95 and they talk like the Mindlebright sisters on Andy Griffith every night from 8:30-9:00.
I sit in awe of a group of Dawgs that come here and go from a devil on a golf course for levity and come off as haters of the Orange Man or Sleepy Joe. Then we argue about the constitution and with or without masks. My only words on masks is a guy and lady ( loose terms included ) that were wearing masks outside the grocery but as they came out they had slits cut in and proceeded to light up a cig with mask on to their car.
My only thoughts is I have no idea why there was a devil on the golf course but I know he follows me around and sits on my shoulder while trying to play 5 hours of golf. I hope the guy didn’t tear a ligament as well as most of ya’lls cantor doesn’t really picture the hate you live in towards each other.
I can remember growing up and I pretty much hated it. I’d be drug along to visit and my folks would have coffee and talk for hours. I never really understood that I guess but during those times people-friends were more important than who the president was. Media-News was not a 24-7 division that it is now.
Perhaps after this is over you might just want to call or go over and sit down and talk to a friend. TV off, no IPhone, just talk. We could use some better rhetorical conversation. Hell we may even find out that we care about fellow Dawgs no matter who they voted for.

I think that the politics of this whole situation is very interesting, and maddening. The Federal responsibilities seem to be viewed by most as weak and inappropriate. No, the real problem is how this situation we are in has shed light and magnifying glass on how inept and discombobulated our state and local governments function. If you have an issue with masks, lockdowns, policies, look to your state. The Fed should be looking at the forest. One’s state and local survival/resistance to this virus is how we are going to pull through and the Fed is how we will finish the year.
