One way or another

One of Marc Weiszer’s five bold predictions for this Georgia season:

Carson Beck will throw more touchdown passes than Stetson Bennett

With Mike Bobo as offensive coordinator, Aaron Murray threw 35 touchdown passes in 2011 and 36 in 2012. Stetson Bennett didn’t hit 30 in either of the last two seasons, throwing 29 in 2021 and 27 in 2022.

Bennett rushed for 10 touchdowns last season, the vast majority in the red zone. Look for Beck to get the ball in the end zone more when Georgia gets inside the 20.

Assuming neither Beck nor Bobo is a flop, I don’t think that’s very bold at all.  Georgia’s offense looks to be prolific again, and if Beck doesn’t use his feet to score, he’ll rely on another part of his anatomy to do the trick.

How many TDs do you think he throws this season?

Still gappin’

Former Gator (!) Chris Doering:

“I think it’s Georgia and everybody else, and that’s not just in the East, it’s in the conference in general,” Doering said on the Ingles On The Beat Show on Monday night on DawgNation.

“I think there’s a pretty significant gap.”

That’s because they didn’t give Dan Mullen enough time in Gainesville.

Sending up a flare

Can I assume there’s enough interest in another season of playing pick ’em in the Fabris Pool to move forward with it?

Let me know in the comments and I’ll send out an invitation email to y’all.

Today, in back-handed compliments

Honestly, I get where Brian Kelly is coming from with this:

True dat.

“The circumstances have changed, and we need to reconsider the format.”

Greg Sankey sounds pretty adamant about redistributing the CFP loot.

“Right now, you put it in bold letters that things are going to change. Period,” Sankey told ESPN in a recent interview. “And we’re all going to have to be prepared to deal with that change. Period.”

I mean, you know somebody’s serious when he recites punctuation.  Twice.

“I’m not convinced we need to reconsider the number of teams, and I’ve been clear that I would have been OK with an eight-team playoff with no conference champion access. That wasn’t, if you will, politically tenable within the group. So as we continued to look at the models, we came up with the six-and-six model. But, again, the circumstances have changed in a meaningful way, and my inclination is we need to reexamine the current format.”

Translation:  Kliavkoff, you can take that weak shit out of here if you’re still expecting to claim your conference’s piece of the pie.

And don’t try to tell me Sankey won’t get some personal satisfaction out of telling Mr. “… And there doesn’t need to be (a contract)” what he can do with his piece of the Alliance.  As the saying goes, you come at the king, you best not miss.
