Bulldog junior Brock Bowers won the 2023 John Mackey Award given to college football’s top tight end a year after capturing his first Mackey Award, according to an announcement during the virtual Home Depot ESPN College Football Awards Show Friday night.
Bowers, a native of Napa, Calif., is the only Bulldog to ever win the Mackey Award. In fact, he becomes the first two-time winner from any school of the honor that originated in 2000.
Like a certain Dawg great I can think of, Bowers was slighted on the award for his freshman year performance, but no matter. There’s a strong argument to be made that he’s the best college tight end ever to play the game.
He’s certainly the best one to play at Georgia. In fact, it’s getting close to legacy time for Brock. Where does he rank among Dawg greats? Second, behind Herschel? Or, considering he’s got two national championship rings to wave around, even with Herschel?

This is pretty cool.
It pays to have friends in high places. 😉
Better Syracuse than Georgia Tech, Mekhi.

Pretty, pretty good…
When the time comes, I bet they’ll be in the 200+ wins group, too.
