The textbook example of inexplicable

I know cocknfire was focused on Tennessee’s decline in this post, but still, all the more reason to ask:  how in the hell did Georgia get smoked in that 2007 game in Knoxville?

“….how in the hell did Georgia get smoked in that 2007 game in Knoxville.” The Dawgs just hadn’t jelled as a team at that point. As was pointed out on this blog a couple of days ago, after the Dawgs beat Florida in the endzone stomping game they became invincible. Before that they were a 4-2 team with a couple of close wins. After that WLOCP win the team was a dynamo. That UGA team was the best team in the nation at the end of the season.

Looking back on it, I guess we should have been concerned. Any team that can just flip a switch and go from getting taken to the woodshed in Knoxville to apparent world beaters has got to be a bit of a head case. Obviously that proved correct given the ’08 and 09′ teams. But still, I remember being so dejected after that Tennessee loss that I almost got in a fight with a Vol fan at Taco Mac. Then, a few weeks later I’m firmly convinced UGA is the best. team. EVER. God I love college football. Anyone ever took a swing at someone over a Falcons game? Didn’t think so.

In one word: Willie. Erik Ainge and Co. absolutely owned the guy. I know it took a while for the offense to start clicking but I could’ve played on defense that day with similar results same for the game in 06. the end around bomb to a guy with literally no georgia defender in the tv picture summed up the day if not that then Arian Foster repeatedly tapping his wrist to signal yet another UT TD.

That was the most disappointed road game I’ve attended. What was it….28-0 at half?

Lets see – complete and total coaching ineptitude comes to mind. The lack of preparation and giving a flip we demonstrated that day was absolutely embarrassing

    From the article:

“There’s a lot of optimism in Knoxville these days, and rightly so.”

Really? That surprises me. I don’t expect SOD to make it out of October with his job.

The 3 and outs says a great deal about the ’07 game. 6 of 8 possesions were 3 and out, the other 2 were 6 plays. Granted CWM wasn’t much better.

No idea. I’m still wondering the same thing about the loss in 09 to Kiffy.

Yep. And Kiffen will always have that on us.

We’ve been treated to some truly pathetic games since 2007 — Colorado, UCF, the Funeral Game, WLOCP 2008 — but those two losses to Tennessee were especially awful.

Yep. I was at both, and I’m not sure which was worse. Losing to Kiffie was pretty horrible, but the ’07 game coulda been a bigger beat down than it was. Say what you will about the guy, I thought Fulmer respectfully took his foot off the gas in the second half.

To answer the Senator’s question, since the only time I’ve been to Neyland was those 2 games, it’s probably my fault we got waxed in both. Before y’all beat on me too badly for that, you can thank me for passing up the chance to go to Neyland last year!

  8. I wish I could help, but the last thing I remember was losing 28-0 at the half and cursing at anything that moved and some things that didn’t. That was the drunkest I’ve ever been in my life. I went to Six Flags the next day hungover as hell. Good times.

Because UGA is not that good.

Who did UGA beat last year again?

Not talking about last year, tard. I’d say we were pretty good that year but for that one disastrous game.

Oh, sorry let me clarify: UGA is never that good.

Georgia had the 9th best winning percentage in the 2000’s.

Mark Richt has won two SEC championships in the last ten years..nobody has won more.

Mark Richt has coached in more SEC Championship games (four) in the last ten years than anyone.

Other than that, JCB, your posts make complete sense…

Not one person blames Bobo? Just checking. If I remember that game, they ran straight at Marcus Howard a lot. He was fierce in the pass rush, but we (CWM) never adjusted to stop the run. They got a big lead and just whipped us to the point where it looked like we quit. Tough to watch.

And then worse, they somehow got a horseshoe lodged in their ass towards the end of the year. There were at least 3 games they should’ve lost but pulled out late. I would’ve liked our chances against 2007 LSU in the Dome (and yet another overrated Suckeye squad.)

The two most brutal Georgia games I’ve ever attended were ’07 and ’09 in Knoxville. In ’07, I literally got in the car and drove home rather than staying in Knoxville another night.
