My Mumme Poll ballot, Week 8

TOP FIVE

  • Alabama
  • Florida
  • Oklahoma
  • Penn State
  • Texas

BEST OF THE REST

  • Georgia
  • LSU
  • Ohio State
  • Oklahoma State
  • Southern Cal
  • Texas Tech
  • Utah

THOUGHTS AND COMMENTS:

  • I didn’t have much of a problem with my top five this week.  Indeed, the only struggle I had was with my last pick, but in the end, I still like Utah – although by ever slighter margins – over my other options there.  I’m not convinced the Utes will hold up, but we’ll see.
  • LSU got back in my top twelve with that dominant second half performance against South Carolina.
  • I really wanted to penalize Texas Tech for the stunt Leach pulled at the end of the Texas A&M game, but decided to let the upcoming schedule take care of that instead.
  • No ACC or Big East teams.  Again.  And I’m not really sure when I’ll be voting for one, either.

As far as the ACC, I am not sure if you will this year. All 3 teams that were ranked heading in to this week lost. Not trying to sound cocky, but is anyone really scared of Georgia Tech. They are winning, but these past few weeks they aren’t really dominating anyone. 3 point win over GW. 7 point win over clemson, with a new coach and a team that for all intent has quit. Their top QB was knocked out and they were playing without spiller, and still almost won.

I’m giving OU a little bounce over UF for the Kansas win. UF certainly will have the opportunity in the future to pass them. It was a close call as UF owns a very impressive home win over LSU but a not so impressive home loss against Ole Miss. Right now, Bama looks like the weakest of the top five teams. I said this at the time, you will never see them play as well as they did in the first half against us again this year. Maybe not even close to that. Two teams that I’m not confident in that’s on this list are Utah for obvious reasons and Texas Tech. Texas Tech will be able to flex their muscle, if they have it, soon. OSU looks like a different team with Beanie Wells. Watch how much mileage USC gets off their crushing of OSU as the BCS plot thickens. Right now, OSU is a much, much better team than the one USC played that night a few weeks ago.

I wish Richt would pull a Leach.

Being classy is nice, but all it does is make you an afterthought in the polls.

RUTS if you get the chance.
