Hi, we’re from the police and we’re here to help.

Georgia junior cornerback Vance Cuff was arrested Tuesday by university police on misdemeanor charges of having a suspended license and emerging from an alley.

Emerging from an alley? They’ve got to be kidding – I didn’t even know that one was on the books.

Athens, Georgia must be the safest college town in America.

UPDATE: Vanderbilt suspended a player for something almost as serious.  In the school’s defense, it was his second arrest in as many years.

UPDATE #2: More details emerge, per David Hale.

… The incident occurred, according to a statement released by the school, when Cuff left the Butts-Mehre Building on his scooter. He made a left and drove down Rutherford Street, which is currently closed during construction. When he was stopped for driving down the closed road, it was discovered that his license was suspended.

You know, it’s a damned shame that Hunter Thompson passed away.  The situation in Athens is crying out for a scooter sequel to Hell’s Angels.

There is an epidemic in Athens of folks emerging from alleys. Having a suspended license only makes them more dangerous. And late charges on library cards? A felony.

I have a real easy solution. How about quit driving on a frickin suspended license. I know the emerging charge is recockulous but so is driving on a suspended license. Let’s stop making excuses for our guys. If you follow the rules you don’t have to worry with things like this.

Not sure if Athens is the safest town, but with a GSP post there, the Athens-Clarke P. D., the Clarke S. O. and the UGA police, it surely has more police per capita than most places and they have to do something besides eat donuts.

The alleys refer to the very, very few number of alleys that are in downtown Athens, which are meant only for service vehicles, mail delivery, and beer delivery trucks. Its illegal for anyone else though how can you blame Vance Cuff for looking for a short-cut? Whatever it takes for our D to get to the ball faster.

If you ever find yourself in an Athens alley, you’d better stay there, since emerging is a crime!

Also, was the charge that he was _driving_ on a suspended license, or merely that he _had_ a suspended license? If the latter, I didn’t know that was a crime, either…

Maybe Vance thought that the penalty for entering an alley would be much worse than the penalty for emerging from an alley.

I guess he will have more time to rest that hurt knee.

All off season the kids stayed out of trouble. Richt focused on this.

Can we take this as a sign that he has turned his focus to something else?

Probably not but I have to focus my optimism somehow.

I support strong disciplinary action, and applaud the way CMR has handled problem areas, but minor traffic offenses are the type incidents you run steps for, not suspend players. This is a motorized bicycle in an unauthorized area, not a potential terrorist attack, or crazed driggie driving a 3000 pound vehicle through red lights. Judges have discretion in sentencing, so should CMR. Let’s keep a perspective. All rules violations are not felonies.

Yet another ACC cop on a power trip. UGA football players are profiled like no other group in America.

i bet it was a university cadet-in-training. i once got ticketed for “failing to maintain lane” when i drove past steverino’s and moved left around a hole (they were doing construction). during my vigorous pro se defense, the officer admitted he had been certified to play grown up the day before, and i was his 4th ticket.

You couldn’t be more wrong about that last sentence. First, we aren’t a democracy, and secondly we as a country are under attack like never before. As for being “well protected”, we are being taken without a shot being fired. Next year’s Congressional elections are our last hope.

Sorry, I know this is a football blog, but I feel it will fall as well before it is all over and I just cannot stand by without fighting for what we are losing. My apologies Senator, but I am becoming a rebel and unable to resist my “other passion” in life these days.

Although I think you’re kidding yourself if you honestly believe the Republicans are going to be any more adept at pulling the car out of the ditch than the Democrats.

Oh, I don’t. First I am a conservative, not a Republican so I don’t subscribe to anyone’s party line. In fact, I feel both Party’s demand for strict adherance to all Party Platforms is to blame for much of what has happened. What I am hopeful of is enough change in seats to remove pelosi and to establish a true “check and balance” to a runaway adminstration. It is very frightening, and without a change of leadership in one branch, I don’t see a peaceful way to preserve our country.

How about a guest appearance on “Sons of Anarchy” as punishment?

Quite honestly, I would make Cuff run some gassers at the end of practice, send him home with a bunch of game video to review and that would be the punishment. I wouldn’t suspend him for something as simple as this.

Would anyone be willing to help me drug Bryan Evans and leave him sans license in an Athens alley?

I do not mean to be a pain but an effective manager does not put an employee (player) in a position to totally fail. I am not sure he has but you either put them in a position where they can be successful in your scheme or you change the scheme to fit their capabilities. I like to point out how a Utah Team with inferior talent took Alabama out of their game plan while our team was embarrassed with talent just as good as theirs.

Hunter S. Thompson didn’t pass away, the dude killed himself, there is a difference. Don’t get me wrong he was a good writer but passing away to me implies someone who fought but lost the battle with death (as we all do), HST quit. Sorry to be philosophical but as someone who has seen people valiantly face serious illnesses I lost a lot of respect for the guy when he did that.
