Kiffin watch: not the legacy they had in mind, but a legacy nevertheless

Somehow, this surprises me not in the least:

… The first source said Tennessee expects to receive a letter of inquiry from the NCAA in the near future. As part of a broadened inquiry, the NCAA is expected to interview other former Vols coaches, including Kiffin, about recruiting methods at Tennessee, including the timing of coaching staff contacts with high school players, a source said.

Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton declined to comment on the nature of any ongoing investigation but said Friday: “It’s been publicly acknowledged that the NCAA has followed up on allegations related to our football program last fall. We have not received a letter of inquiry and can’t comment any further at this time.”

Tennessee acknowledged it committed at least six secondary violations during Kiffin’s tenure. The NCAA said the large number of secondary recruiting violations could warrant classification as a major violation.

One source said “a ton of people” have been interviewed regarding Tennessee’s recruiting methods, including recruits who signed with Tennessee to play for Kiffin.

Vol fans, just remember to tell yourselves it’s all part of the plan.

Six secondary violations = a major one? Haven’t we self reported that much ourselves? Don’t get me wrong, I have no sympathy for the Vols, but I juts don’t quite get the calculations.

Yeah..there are 2ndary violations and then there are Hooter girls recruiting for the VOLS and doing jello shots off their belly buttons! Plus didn’t Lame kinda pee down the NCAA backsides and tell them it’s raining….. ???
I may be working too many hours and could be imagining things but I still feel we got punished in future games from out “spontaneous” outburst (end zone celebration) in that beautiful recent Ga/Fla victory. Sooooo…muscle memory from the powers that be! No good can come from all of Lame’s effrontary.

Was hiring Lame kinda like trying to score with the beautiful coed and finally dating her only to break up a week later and then realize it burns when you pee?

Make no mistake: This is also aimed squarely at Mike Hamilton. Did he even make a token gesture last year to tell Kiffin to STFU? The fact that he still has a job is mind-boggling, but I think Tennessee should keep him;-). This probably goes back to “lack of institutional control” since Hamilton did little, if anything, to reign in Kiffin, After Kiffin basically held up his middle finger to the NCAA before he left. The powers-that-be, as overwhelmed as they are, just tucked that stuff away for a rainy day. I think the forecast calls for flash floods…

The last time Tennessee got caught red-handed (Tee Martin, et. al.), they cut a deal with the NCAA to get immunity in exchange for their evidence against Alabama.

I don’t know anyone in Knoxville who has been around long enough to have the evidence to cut a deal this time.

Being an SEC school, it’s their turn in the box.

Better late than never, I say.
