Here’s Corch Meyer’s reaction to the McGarity hire:
“Greg has been a tremendous asset to me and our football program in my time at Florida. I remember first meeting Greg when Jeremy flew out to talk to me about the Florida job. He was involved in every discussion with Jeremy and our family and I could tell right away that Greg played a pivotal role in the athletic department. I could also see that his relationship with Jeremy and others in the athletic department went beyond the professional level. He was very well liked and respected among his co-workers. Greg always found a way to get things done, but he did it in a very personable manner.”
Gracious, yet there’s something missing… hmm… oh, yeah, check Billy Donovan’s comment:
“I’m elated for Greg and his family that he is getting a chance to not only direct a first-class athletic department, but in essence, to go home. I’ve known Greg for 15 years, he was involved in my hiring at Florida, and has been someone I’ve always had great respect and admiration for. I echo the sentiments of everyone here in wishing he and his family the best in Athens and we will certainly all miss him. Georgia has made a fantastic hire.” [Emphasis added.]
Maybe Corch is worried about this.
… Richt joked that he might learn a few of the Gators’ secrets.
“I won’t hit him with that right off the get-go,” he said, laughing. “I’m sure that’s a subject that will come up.”

We are VERY fortunate to have Greg McGarity as the AD at UGA and I hope everybody understands that. There have been numerous mistakes made by the previous AD in recent years that put UGA in a disadvantageous position and that will all end now. The only danger is if that idiot Mike Adams ties to arm-twist Greg McGarity into doing things Adams wants to do that are not really the right course of action. Stand up to him Greg–you’ve got the support of the Bulldog nation!

McGarrity was a safe and boring hire. He has been passed over for AD positions before at Georgia and LSU.

I don’t know if Corch is low-class, or just no-class but he is a small mind, and an ingratious bastard.
As for the mayor, you have got to be kidding me. Take away the stupidity of the decision (s?) of that which ruined his life recently, he had done a solid job as AD, particularly when it came to representing UGA in a classy way and regarding scheduling. I know it is hard to overlook the past several weeks, but take that away and you have to give the guy his due.

I must respectfully disagree with you on this, Mac. All you have to do is look at the UGA schedule and compare it to the FLA schedule this year: UGA- 6 home games; FLA-8 home games. Now I understand that you may be retired, like to travel and have a lot of money (that’s why you drink MacCallan and not Inver House). However, most Dawg fans would rather have another home game or two rather to have than go to the other side of the country to see their team play. Look at Auburn’s schedule, too, while you are at it-8 home games. In fact look at every SEC team. They ALL have more home games than UGA.

Out of an abundance of caution I double checked the 2010 schedules of every team in the SEC. FLA, AUB, ARK and LSU each have 8 home games. All the rest of the SEC teams have 7 home games–except for UGA which is the only team that has 6 home games.

Quality versus quantity my man. 12 home games against ULL and Coastal Carolina have zero appeal. Home and home matchups against better competition are better for fans, even if you watch on TV every other year. There are only 12 precious Saturdays each fall for this great sport, it is sad to waste them on games that are not competitive.

Interesting, thanks for the information. Single malts are a very personal taste preference, much like wine, so there is no right or wrong. I don’t care for Glenlivet, or Glenfiddich personally, regarding them more like a blend (Dewar’s and Famous Grouse, etc.), meaning I would put a touch of club soda in them. Given the price explosion in the past 15 years, I wish I hadn’t developed a preference for Macallan. Like my wife, I seem to have a preference for the items at the top of the shelf (pricewise).

Urban Meyer hates Georgia. HATES Georgia. Ever since that celebration in the end zone… and perhaps before, he’s really hated our guts, Richt’s guts, and Uga’s guts. And I like that. It makes the rivalry better for me to have a coach that really hates us, because I certainly hate them and hate him in particular. It’s just like when Spurrier was there. It’s personal. I’m just ready to start winning the damn thing so we can figure out what his “visor” will be… maybe instead of chucking his visor, he’ll just clutch at his chest when Murray throws touchdowns on the Gators.
