Ain’t too proud to beg.

Dooley the Younger would have us believe that he doesn’t really care if his defensive coordinator stays or goes.

… That said, if somebody on his staff wants to leave, Dooley isn’t going to stand in their way.

“I’m not going to beg a guy to stay, because I got thousands of ’em right behind him waiting for their job,” Dooley said.

Thousands.  Man, it must take him forever to weed through resumes.

No fair counting message board posers, though.

If Dooley thinks there are thousands of folks out there who could do the job as good or better, then it is his job he should be worried about because isn’t part of his duties as an HC to get the best DC his budget allows?

Now…if he thinks he has the right man for the job, then he should think about re-tuning his pitch. I would err on the side of ‘I am a good administrator/this is the right guy/what can we do to keep him’ than ‘This dumb-a is replaceable by virtually anyone.’ The latter is more of an indictment of Dooley than any sort of positive about how desired the job is.

He doesn’t really seem to feel that way about players when they want to transfer, does he?

Wow. That’s gotta make the defensive recruits feel good about signing with Tennessee.

This is probably true; unemployment in Tennessee is 9.4%.

Derek meet the Peter Principle. He is beginning to sound a little scared to me. I think he has out punted his coverage.

So long as they don’t take a job within eight hours of Knoxville.

Maybe Vince devoted too much time to his job, but the DD apple fell far from the tree, methinks.

He hasn’t shown an ounce of integrity yet. Ever since his players tried to beat two guys to death, and skated, I have pulled for him to lose every game.

This mentality that someone can’t be replaced just drives me up the wall. Nobody, let me say it again, nobody is irreplaceable. Yet this conservative, soul-crushing fear of change seems to permeate the UGA football fanbase. I couldn’t agree more with Dooley. Good for him.

For some of us, it’s not fear of change; it’s belief that Mark Richt is the right man for the job. There’s a difference.

Not sure of which fanbase you speak, JBJ.

The one that screamed for WM’s firing for two years?

The one so highly critical of M. Bobo?

      The strength-and-conditioning chorus?

The same ones that keep saying, “There aren’t any head coaches available that will stay at UGA like CMR.” or “We have to all get in line and support an inferior product on the field or we will lose recruits.”. I could go on.

I agree with your larger point regarding fear of change amongst some in the Georgia fanbase. The concept of “coach for life”, which seems to be what some want, is dead in all modern sports. There are too many who haven’t yet acclimated themselves to this fact.

That said, coaches aren’t commodities. Our experience going from Van Gorder to Martinez is proof of that.

Can I keep my day job at the toll booth and come up for just games?

I’m almost vested with the Fraternal Brotherhood of Toll Booth Operators Local 674 so I don’t want to give that up.
