“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
So what does that say about R. Samuel?…is he not showing promise? I mean Ogletree, jarvis, and Robinson are gonna all play pretty much every play and Drew/washington are set to cover Hustons LB spot. Also do we think maybe the coaches saw Ogletree hitting/tackling good, but getting burnt on coverage too much.
I mean we played a true Fresh Safety last year…and i have no problem playing another this year. In fact I would say that a safety that is more concerned about getting burnt is better then a hard hitter atm. If our DL and LB shut down the run and give QBs some pressure then we just need secondary playing tight and not worrying about trying to decapitate a reciever.

Also…maybe with 2 NFL coaches on the LBs Grantham is wanting to get insane LB speed for some good ole blitzing that actually gets to the QB.

I just heard Willie say,”say what?”

I’m not too worried about Richard Samuel yet. They moved Jarvis to OLB so he’s still competing with just one person ahead of him and if there’s a lot of competition for playing time at ILB I say that only benefits us.

Fast = good. Tackle = better.

I don’t think it says much about Samuel as it does about what they think that Ogletree can do at LB. Samuel should still get time as two guys aren’t going to take all the snaps at ILB. As for safety I think Hamilton will be given a shot to see if he picked up the defense but if not it will be a race between Deas and Moore. Reports on Moore is that he is great in coverage. For the first time since 2007 it looks like we have a front 7 that matches up with anyone.

I saw enough of Hamilton last year to conclude that he will not HIT. There must be another safety we are counting on. If not, it is going to be a long year in the secondary.

Aye…he had more facemask penalties then good hits.

Yeah, Hamilton is a mystery to me. He apparently earned quite a reputation for being a hard hitter prior to coming to UGA. But by his second game, it was clear that his two moves were (a) the Reshad Jones “shoulder tackle,” and (b) face-masking. Hopefully he returns to his “Hit Man” form this year. I miss the days when opposing WRs feared for their lives when crossing the middle of the field.

Uh…I’m pretty sure Shawn Williams will start at Safety. The kid played great most of the year, but we just couldn’t keep #9 on the sidelines. I think this is a move to get the best 11 on the field. Williams is in that 11 more than whomever was going to play linebacker.
