UPDATE #2: Some rationality from Rocky Top Talk.
I think Tenn is going to be tough next year. They have some really good skill positions on offense and their line is mostly sophs, so if they continue to mature, their offense will be quite good. I think the D is pretty young too. With a few good classes to shore up depth and add a few key position players, they will be strong over the next 2 years.

How will their running game be better next year?

Well, that Lane kid has some nice flashes out of the back field and he is a true freshman. If the line improves, that will help.

Besides, Derek Dooley is too young to be having a midlife crisis.

His Mommy is not doing him any favors. She should keep her thoughts to herself instead of barging in on a radio show to defend her little boy. Having a famous Dad has probably helped him in some ways and hurt him in others during his coaching career.
The SEC is a tough place. Win or go home. If you are a nice guy, then we give you a little more leniency. Personally I don’t think Dooley will ever lead UT to a SECC.

He’s got 1 more year, 2 max, then he’s gone. That was the plan from AD Mike Hamilton all along since he couldn’t hire a first rate coach when the Lamer left. Hire someone to take the hit with the program down and when the NCAA stuff blows over fire that guy and hire a top flight HC.

Dooley made some questionable decisions Saturday night, but to turn on him after less than a season and a half is ridiculous. I mean, he’s having to clean up the personnel disasters left to him by Fulmer AND Kiffin — that was never gonna happen overnight. I wonder how many of these Vol fans were ready to get down on their knees and shine Kiffin’s knob after he finished his one regular season 7-5 — sure seemed like a lot of them at the time.

Exactly. But this is what usually happens to coaches who take over troubled programs. Good coaches get the ship righted but can’t quite get back to winning it seems. In this case, Dooley may be going the route of Dennis Felton, but it is WAY too early to be calling for his head. I think UT fans are impatient and are are counting Kiffin’s rebuilding year as one of Dooley’s. It’s tough but UT fans need to take a step back and realize where they are in the grand scheme of things. They’ve still got a ways to go, but bitching about Dooley seems awfully premature to me. .

No doubt, Kiffen left UT as a literal Dumpster fire. That can not be fixed in 2 years. Yes, it happened in Atlanta after the Rattrino Dumpster fire, but it is easier when you can hire decent players. So unless they want to go the way of Auburn, give him some time to recruit players and get the ship righted.

Dooley wont get the ship righted at UT anymore than Shula did at Alabama.

No coacah can possibly be as bad as Felton. There is not a single area of the job that he wouldn’t get an F on.

Bear mind this is Tennessee. Remember the elegant, discreet manners displayed when Johnny Majors and Phil Fulmer, their 2 best coaches since Neyland, retired. And the textbook personnel management they showed us with Lane Kiffin.

Majors and Fulmer didn’t “retire.” They were “run-oft.”

Dooley’s just lucky the AJC doesn’t have a UT section.

Unfortunately it turns out Bama fans MAY be insane, or some of them, but mostly what they are is right.

Wow. I thought Bama fans were insane (oh wait, they’re goddam lunatics).
Dooley was left with a giant plate of crap, and he’s only been there a seasaon and a half. I don’t know what kind of coach the man is, but Vince Lombardi would not have cured the Vols’ woes this quickly, either. Tennesse fans need to stop acting like a frothing mob for once and try and gain some perspective.

I think Derek Dooley is a good coach. He has a solid staff, some very good players, and an understanding of the game. Unfortunately, he coaches in a state that when you look closely at the people this thought comes to mind. Too much inbreeding. And not many smart people within the borders of that state.
I almost attended UT, but out of state tuition was a bit much to pay in those days. I like their university, but it has a few people who think they should be the only program in the SEC. They want an Urban Meyers, Nick Saban, or Les Miles. Last evening I listened and watched the rebroadcast of the game on satellite. I do not know who those commentators were, but there was one who was more than just a “homer”. That guy should have put a headset on and gone down on the field with a clip board to coach both sides of the ball. After IC’s 17 yard TD run I hit the off switch. Could not take that anymore.
CMR you can manage a game! Great job and thanks coach, staff, and players on a well deserved win. It was fun to watch!

I’m sorry…which SEC team are you referring too? That just about describes all of them except Bama (who will just want the Bear back after Saban fails to win the MNC this year).

Since when did we become sympathetic to the freaking Volunteer fanbase??
When I was at UGA we got beat by the all 4 years and beyond and I had to endure their fans outside of the stadium and downtown after the game.
They can rot in hell for all I care.

Call it sympathy for the Devil’s coach. You can still hate the Devil out of UT and, at the same time, feel some sympathy for the poor schmo stuck in HELL.

seriously couldn’t agree more. I’d rather have to put up a Gator at my home for a year than have sympathy for the UT fanbase. My future wife, who looked at a football game as a social event, attended the famous hobnail boot game without me there and I told her before she went that this crowd literally looks at the football game as a life and death thing. She didn’t quite heed my warning and as she began to feel her oats at a nearby pub after the game some classy inbred pour beer all over her. Thank goodness she was a women and got some sympathy and thank goodness I wasn’t around for that incident or else I might not have responded to that very well.

Rot in hell is pretty strong stuff there BB. I know I’ve punted breakfast , left the food untouched. asked for the check and then told the manager he sucked cause the wait staff harrassed us the morning after the Vols waxed us…but damn. I might need to tighten up. Am I getting soft?

I agree with BulldogBen!! I suffered through the Donnan debacles against utk, and all the trash talk before and after the games – much of it from the classless fat fulmer. If they are relegated to permanent last place in the sec, it would be just deserts. Wish Dawgs could back during our off week and kick their a$$es worse.

You could see this coming a mile away when he took the job. Tennessee fan said that he understood the situation was bad, and Tennessee fan promised that he was going to be patient and give Dooley a few years to get things going in the right direction. Frankly, I’m surprised that Tennessee fan managed to give Dooley all of last year. I wonder how much different they’d feel if Hunter hadn’t gotten hurt against Florida?
But seriously, Mrs. Dooley (and this is coming from someone who has always respected you as a member of the Bulldog family), you’re not helping Derek out at all. All you’re doing is weakening his position with your antics.

Can’t really judge Derek until 2013 but he needs to win 7-8 next year or he might not make 2013. His mom is not doing him any favors but will not change. She still thinks it is the 1970s. Media and coaches being friends??? Only Finebaum and Saban.
