“I really don’t care too much about the attention because we’re winning and if you watch the film, you see what I can do, or if you watch the game, you see what I can do,” Herrera said. “I don’t really like to talk much about it. That’s how I was in high school. I didn’t get to play in no big All-American games and I had one of the best senior years.”
Herrera didn’t get an invite for the US. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio or the Under Armour All-American game in St. Petersburg, Fla. No, he played in the less high-profile Offense-Defense All-American Bowl in Myrtle Beach.

Could he be one of those “David Pollack-type” of recruits that didn’t get the spotlight but works hard with a “motor”. Not a five-star guy but brings “110%” everyday?
No, I’ve been told that we no longer get those guys, instead we just get the lazy super stars. Fire Everyone!

I love seeing these Freshman contributing early. All we need now is for one of the OL freshman to step up and join Dallas Lee as a back up getting snaps so they’ll be ready replacing our senior starters next year. If that happens I may officially be an optimist concerning the direct of the entire program.

Well, the interesting thing, too, is what are we going to do at LB. Herrera is all over the place, Gilliard is playing awesome. CRob (our ‘D captain’) tries really hard, knows all the calls, but continues to get burned in pass coverage.
With the return of Tree and Christian, we’re going to learn a lot about our staff now and how we view talent and production. The bottom line is that Amarlo Herrera needs to be our starter for the next 2 1/2 years. He and Tree could be lethal running sideline to sideline. And Gilliard is becoming a beast. Basically, I think Christian might be our 4th best come Oct. 29. Are we going to go with talent/production or are we going to go with seniority? Could be interesting.

Grantham said he is keeping H & G starters. Hell Grantham even said he still had to see what Tree could do. I think Grantham is happy and that means that CRob and Tree are gonna be backups until one starts Killing it up on the field.
Also remember back in 08 when we would get pissed b/c Curran would be on the sideline during big plays. I’m not sure what the prob was there, but if you have 4 solid LBs then its not that big of a deal.
Also…WTH would we be doing if Samuel was still a LB? My god 5 guys, 2 positions…

Glad to see that TG will keep H&G active. What gives with Gilliard playing lights out and we don’t even mention him? It seems to be Herrera all the time. Are we afraid that ‘Tree won’t play if Gilliard’s feats are lionized? Probably, but Gilliard should be hoisted on our blogging shoulders and paraded around for everyone to see. Best complete tackler and O destroyer we’ve had in years, yet we can’t seem to place him atop the heap. The media already has.
Whatever is going on with Gilliard in the fan’s mind is beginning to appear that we have player bias that overrides objective player assessment. Gilliard is damn good already, not just becoming good. We should let him know that he is appreciated instead of leaving him out of the conversation.

I love getting guys that are 3-4 stars and expected to be career backups, then they just dominate the field.

“Amarlo Herrera became the 11th player to fax his letter of intent to Georgia this morning. Herrera is a four-star linebacker out of North Clayton High School in Georgia. Herrera selected Georgia over Auburn, Florida, and Georgia Tech while having offers from at least seven other schools. Herrera committed to the Bulldogs last February and stuck with the commitment all the way through his senior season. Rivals ranks Herrera as the No. 17 player in the state of Georgia.
“He already knew I was going to do it so it wasn’t much of a surprise,” “I had made my decision a while ago because I always wanted to go to Georgia. I said if they offered me I was going to go with them. This just made it official.”
The 6-foot-2 215-pound linebacker said that one of the big reasons he selected Georgia was due to defensive coordinator Todd Grantham and the 3-4 defense that is now employed by the team.
“I like the 3-4,” Herrera said. “We already run it in high school, so it should be an easy transition for me.””

Saw elsewhere that Amarlo though he would be playing OLB when he got here. So, it’s possible that he’ll see some time there with tree back in passing downs.
Herrera’s main recruiter was Garner, but everywhere I saw, he mentioned Grantham talking to him a lot. I think that Grantham really wanted him. He’s obviously a great fit and is playing his ass off. We should also be adding Shannon Brown at ILB next year. We’re gonna be stacked at LB for a few years to come.
Oh, and finally, I’d like to point out that Herrera loves UGA. That’s good stuff.

Garners territory is Atl area but Grantham ran as point man I believe. Add Sterling Bailey to the list once he gets the opportunity and recovers by next year

The emergence of Herrera and Gilliard gives CTG more options. Maybe Tree moves outside or back to safety next year. A reincarnation of Thomas Davis would be awesome!

Exactly. The early injuries hurt but guess what? We now have four viable options at LB, plus Tree can still move back to safety if needed or desired.
