They were having the homecoming parade and I’ll never forget when Munson came by.
“He was in the back of a convertible. He had a cigar in one hand, a Budweiser in the other and cheerleaders sitting on either side of him. I asked my Dad, ‘Who’s that?’ Right then, two women streakers ran by right in front of him. That was my first recollection of Munson, that homecoming parade.”

Get The Picture 
Really liked Posnanski’s column. I’ve got a bunch of Munson clips, and some of his greatest stuff comes from games that Georgia didn’t win (’78 Auburn, ’87 Clemson). He lived and died with his DAWGS, just like his listeners did; but the best thing about him was, he was still able to paint “the picture” throughout the entire game, never let his love for GA get in the way of presenting each football game as it actually was. Best football radio play-by-play broadcaster of all time.

His call of the ’94 Vandy disaster was epic. Hell…his call of the 2000 GT game was great, too. “They are running over us like we’re Maryland or Wake Forest or something.” That’s as good as it gets for painting a picture.
But that Vandy game where he talked about what the clock was doing to us was so vivid. The worst part of that disaster was the Vandy running back going for 200 yards. The kid was blind in 1 eye and Munson said something like,….”This blind kid is running wild on us.” LMAO!

Weirdly, I probably have fewer than most, because I’ve never taken a radio to games.
As I’ve mentioned, his call of the ’78 Kentucky game has had a lasting effect on me, but it seems like I’ve attended almost every game since then that generated a big call, with the exception of the Hobnail Boot – and for that I have to admit I was screaming so loud when it happened that I drowned out much of that.
Over his last 10-15 years, I heard him more during the pre-game shows than during the games. For me, it’s more like he’s the voice of what Georgia football games sound like, starting back in the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s when you couldn’t count on the Dawgs being on TV. And I can’t think about his work on the weekly call-in shows without smiling.

My only encounter with Mr. Munson came in 1994 (I think) while driving back from Starkville after we played State. I remember turning the dial trying to find a CFB game and encountering Munson call the Dawgs. If can’t remember who y’all played or whether or not you won, but it was incredible.
