“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
The Big 10 made a mistake putting this game in Indy. They should put the game in a city with enough “home town fans” who don’t have to travel, like Chicago. Which is the melting pot of the Big 10 like Atlanta is for the SEC.

Yeah, and exactly how many Indiana folks do you think will attend as well. I doubt many of them would go if the Bloomington team was playing.

If the winner of the ACC/Big 10’s championship game determined who would go to a 8 team playoff, would more people show up?
And if all you really care about is the national championship–and winning your league isn’t that important–then then there must be a lot of fan bases out there that lose interest in college football after their team drops out of the top 2.

Good point Z. Would an 8 team playoff make those games more important or less important?

Yeah Big 10, bet you was something before electricity!

Thursday night events in downtown Atlanta needs seat-fillers. Total number of seat-fillers needed is not important right now.
Must tolerate drinks and trash being thrown toward you and boorish immature behavior all around you. Prefer gold, yellow, beige, white, navy blue, or black clothing and a severe inferiority complex. Event will last one and a half hours on Thursday nights. All ages, sexes, races, etc. No visas, green cards, or proof-of-citizenship required.
Please use contact e-mail. Event planner Dan will follow-up with exact details on a reasonably safe location for staging of seat-fillers (additional information and instruction provided there). Be prepared to move several times during the evening.

it’s NOT ok to contact this poster with spells, hit points, or other silly games.

Wait, four hot dogs and four cokes isn’t enough?!?!?

I love the excuses as to why it isn’t really sold out.
.
As if any of that would prevent the SEC championship game from selling out.

For once, we agree. The SEC would bring 100,000 people to a championship game in Vadalia, GA.

Okay, I’m gonna have to go all “Grammar Police” on you….it’s Vidalia. Check the onion bag next time you’re at the store. 🙂
And I agree, the SEC CG could be in Indianapolis, and it would sell out.

Nothing compares to the SEC. Not the Pac-12. Not the Big Ten/Eleven/Twelve. Not the ACC. Not the Big 12/10, who got rid of their championship game.
The SEC is a different animal.

I love that they showed the ACC Champ game picture as a “what not to do”. If only it had been the GT/Wake Championship game. I wondere whic had a lower attendance?

I was actually at both (BC vs VT and GT vs WF). Attendence to GT/WF was less, but it was a cool misty rain that day. BC/VT was ideal football weather.

Damn, you lost a bet two years in a row?

That Big Tweleventen matchup looks pretty interesting to me, and the Indy area should be ready for some competitive football by now. Think that game is a hard sell, imagine the interest in the PAC 12 game…30+ point underdogs! I knew UCLA should have hired June Jones that year, need them some Pirate right now.

I saw PAC 12 tickets were as low as $18. I thought about giving it a try just to visit Autzen until I realized my wife’s school will have free hot cocoa on the same day.

Ahh…I’d rather see Leach in Oxford. Those poor bastards need some excitement. If not there, Starkville after Mullen splits.

It really ticks me off that SECCG isn’t in primetime. And now I see this. Oh the humanity!

Yeah, but they probably will have Corso and Herbstreit there. Could be interesting to see how they talk around the SECCG while sitting in that desert.

Gameday is actually gonna be at the SEC

I heard that today and I am shocked. I would have thought the would have supported the ABC 8pm game in Stillwater. Does anyone know if we are the home or away team?

think we are away? but get to wear red since lsu does home whites

But yeah, the Big Ten is totally on par with the SEC as a conference. Sure.

Which proves that the market really decides such things not the pronouncements from some bozo commissioner. Just wait ’til the TV ratings come in. The network may want its money back.

It being on FOX won’t help the ratings either.

Oh, the humanity! I forgot that thing was on Fox. (Okay, I lied. I haven’t even thought about the BTCG, so no, I didn’t even know it was on Fox.)
Why don’t they put it on the Ocho and have Speilman and Pam Ward call the game? They could kick it off at 11:00 a.m.

Is Brenaman (sp?) still with FOX? If I remember correctly, he was the main culprit in that abortion of a broadcast for the 2007 Sugar Bowl.

Fox pulled both the big ten and pac 12 games. I would demand a refund from the pac 12.

I’m having a moment of weakness.
Their inaugural game?
I’m actually, genuinely embarrassed for them.

Agreed. Initially surprised (I thought Wisky and MSU fans turned out pretty well for our 2 bowls v each of them), then “it’s gotta be a joke,” then, a vague sense of cruel satisfaction, but, finally, yes, embarrassed for them–at least for the real fans. No doubt in my mind that the SEC is the land’s premier football conference, but I personally have always respected the Big 10, its teams and fans, notwithstanding that they are arithmetically challenged. It’s not the fans’ fault that certain sportswriters think their conference is still more relevant than it really is. But, really, I do not think this is a good thing at all for my favorite sport, which has already suffered a pretty rough year.

If we weren’t in the SECCG on Saturday, it would be fantastic to get a big group together to take their money and then get the “S-E-C!” chant going inside Lucas Oil Field.

Hey, Dawg, Kentucky is close enough. A few busloads of economically challenged football fans @ $75/head should help out for Christmas. Think we should alert Sen Connelly?

If they scheduled the game at an earlier time, they could have just given away tickets to the local kids.

Maybe they should have held it outside the way the commissioner wanted originally, you know, because they’re all such hearty and tough die-hards in that conference.
The Big 10… could be a TV production guide for how many rows of fans they limit showing when doing the crowd shots.

Guess everyone has found out this was a hoax?
LikeLike
Not exactly a hoax. The ad was real (it’s been pulled); it’s just that the Big Ten vehemently denies having anything to do with it.
The lack of fan support for the game seems to be real, too. That’s the bigger problem for the conference.
UPDATE: Hoax it is, then. I stand corrected.
