I’ve got plenty to do already here at the blog during football season, so I’ve never had much of a desire to host a football pool. Too much work tabulating. However, since I’ve had an offer from another site to do all the heavy lifting in terms of scoring the picks and posting the standings, I thought I would see if there was much interest in the readership here in participating in a pool.
So, let me know in the comments if you’d want to do this. My thought would be to have a ten-game slate with tiebreaker, prioritizing Georgia, the SEC and national games of interest. The pool can be structured as a straight pick ’em, against the spread or confidence-weighted. If you tell me you’re interested in playing in the comments, please let me know which format you’d prefer.
And before anybody asks, no prizes are in the offing. This would just be for pride and glory (or at least as much glory as somebody posting pseudonymously can claim.)
Castleberry is in. Would the confidence-weighting be with straight up picks? If so, that’s my preferred.

Yeah. I don’t want to make it too complicated.

I’m in favor of confidence picks against the spread, but regardless of what you choose, I’m in. I’m a sucker for pick’ em pools.

I’m in for sure. And from the home of the Mumme Poll, confidence points are the only way to go.

Nice War Games reference. I’m in. Not a big fan of confidence-weighting, but I’ll play whatever is decided.

I’m in – prefer confidence weighting on straight up picks. Spreads get too complicated when confidence points get involved. I only care about spreads when I’m in Vegas anyways.

Would a reader poll help organize a decision on the format preference?

Ordinarily, yeah. But I’m interested in hearing the reasons for the choice.

Sounds like a good time!

sounds fun. i’ve tried to do them in the past, like at tsk, but the # of games becomes too time consuming if there is a confidence component. 10 would seem to be about a max if confidence comes in. and the sec-centric nature would certainly be more fun than a top 25 type deal.

I am in favor of confidence picks straight up. I am in one like that with “prizes” and it isn’t as easy as it seems. My recommendation would be to only have games that are televised on the list each week.

It sounds like I might be in the minority here, but I have participated in multiple types of pools, my favorite being straight up against the spread…the confidence points pools are fun on a one time basis, like bowl season. As far as the regular season goes–week in, week out it becomes rather cumbersome. But again, I am in either way.

Spread, confidence, makes no difference because I’m walking out the champ! WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Game? Tic-tac-toe.
Pick’em? The spread measures your football knowledge more and helps with accruing knowledge of other teams before we face them. Straight off the board in Vegas would be simple enough.

I’m in. My preference is ats, but I’ll play regardless. I’ve played in both and i never really feel as behind in ats if I have a bad week. Sure I guess the inverse means it is always more difficult to catch up to the leader but that gives me more of an excuse to go full bobo if I am down by 8 in the last week if we are only picking 10 games.

I’m in. If you do ATS, no confidence points. But confidence points if it’s straight up. Perhaps a marquee game of the week where you can pick the total points of the game or the score for each team? (I got a big jump in the standings when I picked LSU-Bama to combine for 21 points in their 1st matchup). The last idea would be a little more complicated, but I thought it made my office pool more fun.

Spread with NO confidence.
Senator,
Check out officefootballpool.com. I’ve been in the same pool on that site for a couple years. As the mod all you’ll have to do is pick the games that the pool will pick for the week. The site does all the calculating, etc internally. Just an fyi.

I’m all for it with either spread or confidence. Guessing with a confidence option, Skeptic Dawg would always have the Dawgs winning and only 1 point or losing with the most points.

Spread, straight-up.
All of us will want to feel a little confident on the off-chance a Vegas trip falls into place during CFB season.

All in. Prefer spread since that is the way bets are made and I already study them that way. Confidence is cool for bowl pools though.

Against the spread straight up. Seems the most simple way to do it and everyone should understand how it works. I bet people already Googled “Confidence Weighted” to see what the hell that means…
Would be fun. Just gives me yet another reason to visit your site!
