Maybe not the best choice of words here, Coach.
“You ask them, it’s all about love. It’s called thug love. It’s hard-core love. But it’s all love. It’s 100 percent love. If you ask everyone it’s love. But it’s hard love.”

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23

Can we get “thug love” entered directly into the Lexicon, or is there a grace period?

Beginning to wonder if that wasn’t Garner’s piece under Crowell’s seat.

I really could see “thug love” going places as a marketing campaign. Maybe we could get some towels with “thug love” printed on them to wave at kickoff. We do love our thugs here at UGA.
Good Lord, coach. Think.

It would really burn the GTU nitwits if we actually embraced the word “Thug”.

Rodney’s publicist says Rodney, formerly educated at the University of Auburn, was thinking more in terms of American Bandstand or Soul Train
“Thug (n.) – an African-American football player who enjoys dancing in public.”

Everyone else in the world calls it “tough love”. Why Rodney Garner can’t call it that is beyond me.

Way to go coach. Amazed how those writers get their panies in a wad over…over…perhaps…a gaffe. Coach, what those little girlie writers would like is for you to squat down, with a flower in hand, break off the petals one by one and say, “loves me, loves me not.”
Coach put a helmet on one of those writers, grab the face-mask, and shake if for awhile.

That’s definitely not the best choice of words. Imagine the field day we would have had with it if that quote had been attributed to Trooper Taylor.

Thing is, I assumed this was Auburn related until I opened the link. Damn.

Hey coach, almost a week end. What is happening with that kicking game?
The one, no one loved last season because it was “ugly”, just freaking “ugly”.

But we have nillys here that actually feel thug is based on race. If it were, and I think not, it is meant against whites. It was a term used for tough guys when referring to wise guys, or union bullies. Not a reference to race at all and that is why it has been used for many decades to fit punks regardless of skin color. There are just people who cannot stand living a day without labeling someone. Just accept it, there are bad folks of all colors and they don’t need defending by some social BS that attempts to excuse it.

It is hard for me to get bunched up over this one. Let’s face it guys, there is a hip-hop culture (or whatever euphemism you want to use here) that is pervasive in today’s youth culture. It doesn’t necessarily mean that kids who are into that are sticking up liquor stores and stealing car radios. Black kids and white kids alike listen to rap/hip-hop and often times use language and embrace terms that none of us would use or identify with.

I am concerned that there might be a copyright infringement suit from Trooper Taylor and Curtis Luper at Auburn. I believe the phrase “Thug Love” was first coined to decribe running out onto the field with your hat turned backward swinging a towel trying to pump up the crowd after your prize bull just took another cheao shot.

Nice, but I consider Trooper to be a punk, not a thug. In another generation I can see him with pom poms. Guy ain’t no thug, acts like a sissy.
