Between the weather, the opponent, the desire to get the starters out as soon as possible… well, I won’t be surprised if Georgia doesn’t cover today. And that may not be such a bad thing, if it’s mainly about getting a bunch of fresh faces some real work in a game, particularly on the defensive side of the ball.
There might be a temptation to use Saturday’s game against unheralded North Texas as the warm-up game that Georgia didn’t get prior to facing Clemson and South Carolina. And Georgia could yet use it that way, but there was no way the Bulldogs were going to admit that publicly.
Still, with another mega-matchup looming next week against No. 6 LSU, the ninth-ranked Bulldogs are hoping to take control early against North Texas and save some key players from further injury risk.
If that happens, a number of younger and inexperienced players will get an extended look.
Turnover margin is the one thing I worry about going in, but if the Dawgs can avoid being sloppy, take control of the game early on and cruise playing a bunch of backups, I’ll live if they don’t win by thirty.
Consider this your game day thread invitation, those of you staying dry.
Thanks. My Cousin Vinny brings a smile to start the day.

Amen to that.
It doesn’t look as though there was much rain last night, if at all (we’re about a block from Butts-Mehre), and the forecast shows the rain possibly not coming in until nearly 3pm. Days like today make me wish this wasn’t a tv game–remember how quickly those radio-only 1pm games were? sigh…

But seriously, he had that dude 1 on 1 and then hesitated, got beat, then “recovered” by grabbing plastic. He’s a liability and LSU is going to pick on him all day in the run game. Also, he cannot get off a block. If you can’t tell, I’m not high on Ramik.

Great catch, Reggie! I’ve seen Dawgs more seasoned than Davis drop skinny posts with naught but green in front of them. Also, a nice confluence of Murray’s 100th TD toss with the longest UGa completion in footballing history.

Ahh … Interesting. So it knocked out the Pass That Lives in Lore-’80 Edition! That was NOT mentioned in the broadcast on the local over-the-air channel up here in the hinterlands. But the SEC Network has limited resources after all.

Forget playing Mason. Can we re-suspend Morgan and get the walkon guy back? Can he not kick it into the end zone or is this more of that directional kicking crap? This game is painful to listen to. Andre Ware is apparently trying out to be the Mean Green announcer. They have 14 of their points off special teams eff ups and he actually says that NT’s offense is moving the ball all game.

Barber kicked off.

Are you sure, cause I thought it was # 13. It was definitely #13 (Morgan) on some of the kickoffs later in the game. I believe Beless deserves the kicking job – he’s earned it.

Amazing. Richt doesn’t even realize he butchered clock management at the end of the half. Some things never change.

How do you figure that? Dawgs only had 2 TOs left and would have had no time on the clock if they had run it out any other way.
LikeLike
Were you asleep? He waited to use the first of the two timeouts and burned a lot of clock in the process. We could have used that time to run a couple of offensive plays once we got the ball back.
LikeLike
Agreed. CMR let about 30 seconds click off.
LikeLike
Point was NT had three downs & Dawgs only had 2 TOs. CMR had to allow them to burn a full clock’s worth on one play and he chose 1st down then immediately burned the TOs on 2nd and 3rd.

Thank you for being smarter than Ware and these guys above. He did exactly the right thing.

Yep, exactly the right thing if you don’t give a rip about maximizing your offensive opportunity at the end of the half.

That’s nice but he didn’t call the timeout right away after 2nd down. He farted around and let a lot of clock burn before calling it.

N. Tex is game, but this game should not be this close. Penn Wagers believes calling holding against Georgia’s opposition is a mortal sin. Several blocks in the back on the kickoff return..but Georgia is not playing as hard as they shuld. I also think Marshall may be the third running back..he goes down too easy.

Just got back from the game. Stayed the whole time even with my soaked socks. Few observations:
-Really impressed with the number of fans there, given the opponent and weather.
-I haven’t seen a team tackle as well as N. Texas in a long time. Very disciplined team and give them credit.
-N. Texas sold out to stop the run and Gurley still almost got his 100 yards. Very tough yards after contact!
-Could have been a few more INTs if we were playing a better team. Some of those passes barely got by defenders.
-Defense only gave up 7 points! Much improved.
That’s all I got for now. Time to watch ASU-Stan and Aub-LSU!
